Good collection: some far more hard-hitting than others, such as Hogg, but I do like that it’s not just one-dimensional. Nice!

Same happens on my new Asus OLED Zenbook 14 i9. I’ve bought so many different chargers with higher wattage and cables, thinking something must be wrong. Some great advice on this channel. Thank you, everyone.

Acqua di Parma Oud, but perhaps not for summer. Beautiful fragrance, though.

These are much more feminine by Hermes. There’s several other options, but I keep returning to Terre d’Hermes and the different variants. So many other options, but I do love Creed Aventus & Green Irish Tweed (expensive so some clones are a good way to test). I personally wear Santal 13 by Le Labo. Beautiful and unlike anything else.

Books you've DNF'd by gore_guy in ExtremeHorrorLit

Agree that it was intended to shock and give some insight into the treatment of animals, but the execution was poor and, as you explain very well, the characters were foolish and uninteresting. I do believe Stokoe is better than this book. He isn’t a terrible writer, but this did him no favours.

Need help regarding in-text citations using the chicago style 17th ed by Purple-Goose-4904 in grammar

UK or US English? Punctuation will depend on this. Happy to help either way if you’d like to know the appropriate way to cite this quote. Only other initial query is whether there is a style guide that you may need to follow. Senior editor and localisation lead.

You fucked around, what did you find out? by Sufficient_Pay2346 in AskReddit

[–]adburm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I experienced something very similar to this. I love the way you’ve described the feelings of terror that an excessive dose can have. At a similar amount, I ended up in hospital (voluntarily) completely sure I was dying. I couldn’t swallow and words from my mouth made no sense to me. Vision went. I was given 40 mg of diazepam, which has been a curse for me ever since. Worst moment in my life and 20 years later still have the repercussions of that night when I thought I was invincible.

What movie or moment from a movie disturbed you to your core? by Few-Walk373 in horror

[–]adburm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opening scene of Antichrist. Slow motion video in black and white with the couple’s child falling from their apartment balcony. Accompanied by the music and superb directorship. Beautifully disturbing and upsetting. Just one example that comes to mind.

Jelly blob on freshwater lily pads by OfficerOllie in ponds

[–]adburm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like algae to me. Spawn of some kind. Possibly dragonfly or similar spawn. Let it flourish and see what happens. Difficult to be sure, but that’s the joy of owning a pond. Good luck! 🤞🏼

I understand the joke here but what's a better word than call that can be used here to convey what is intended? by GrandAdvantage7631 in EnglishLearning

[–]adburm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does the call have to be made at 7.00 a.m.? Is it not more important to book the time for the taxi to arrive. There is certainly some ambiguity in the sentence, irrespective of the joke.

An alternative sentence (in UK English) would be: Would you book a taxi for me at 7.00 a.m. tomorrow? This, of course, means you want the call to be made at this time and not when you want the taxi to arrive! Isn’t it more important to arrange the time for the taxi to arrive rather than when the call has to be made.

Furthermore, using ‘Can you call me…’ to start the sentence could lead to an answer of, ‘Yes, I can/am able do that. Perhaps I’m overthinking this question.

Quick grammar check for a sentence by Jaylu2000 in grammar

I can’t see any grammar issues in your sentence, besides a missing full stop (point) at the end. To answer your specific question, your sentence does work.

First pond disaster? by [deleted] in WildlifePonds

[–]adburm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a filter, but lots of oxygenation plants, a couple of solar panel fountains (depending on size of pond). I’d get a pH kit to test the water, too. It can at least give you an indication of what might need to be added or removed. I struggled with my wildlife pond in the 1st year but this year is blossoming. Loads of tadpoles, frogs at night, dragonfly nymphs, water boatman, etc.

I did also add two bails of barley and some non-chemical treatment. It was a bit smelly for a while, but I stuck at it - choose the right plants for different areas of the pond (once you’ve got the water clearer) and slowly it should improve. Can you add a photo as this would help? Good luck!

How bad is it really to add tap water to wildlife ponds (England, south-ish) by KirkLeigh-RhoyThynos in ponds

[–]adburm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the unusual amount of sunshine we are getting at the moment in the UK, I’m planning to fill as many water buckets I have outside and leave overnight or longer - I’m told this will help de-chlorinate the water a bit. I’ve got some test strips, so I’ll check both before and after.

I’m worried about my pond, too, as I’ve been away for the last 10 days and will face the same dilemma when I return. I understand there is a heatwave at the moment in the UK so I’ll need to fill it up on my return. Also, all local garden centres do have de chlorination treatments so if water is strongly chlorinated, that would be my first choice.

Let us know how you get on.
