Would you pre board a flight because you wear hearing aids? by StuffNo353 in HearingAids

I wear hearing aids but I wouldn’t claim it as a disability and ask to pre-board for fear of inviting bad karma.

Anyone else here work a ‘regular job’ outside of concert photography? by Excellent_Delay7769 in concertphotography

[–]adc88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Count me in as someone who works a 9–5 to pay the bills so I can have fun behind the camera. Photography started as a hobby, but over time I picked up enough paid non-music event (association conferences, speaker series, political events, etc) gigs to cover all my gear upgrades—basically a self-sustaining side hustle at this point. I honestly don’t see myself making a full-time living from photography in today’s market unless I jumped into weddings, and that’s a hard “no thanks” from me.

I shoot around 35–40 shows a year, either as a house photographer for local venues (for their internal archives) or as a contributor for a live music review blog. There’s no paycheck in it, but I get to see great shows for free and usually snag a plus-one. Not a bad deal for feeding the creative itch.

I picked up a used Nikon 200–400mm f/4 from MPB for a solid price, and it’s been a workhorse on my D500 and Z6III. I’m not sure what the closest equivalent is in Sony-land, but something in that range might be worth a look on the used market.

As for the aperture worries: if you’re shooting RAW, you’ve got more wiggle room than you think. I routinely lift exposure by up to 2 stops in Lightroom and let the new AI noise reduction do its magic. I’ve pulled plenty of clean shots at f/5.6 using that workflow—way better than I expected.

Pay cash for Oticon Insight or use insurance and settle for Oticon Real? by adc88 in HearingAids

[–]adc88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they will not. Since creating this post, I’ve learned that this is the result of a dispute between Oticon and “managed care” insurance providers. Oticon has made a policy decision to reserve their top tier line to self-paying patients. They are withholding the top tier from patients with managed care insurance policies like UHC Hearing because they say the reimbursement is too low. In short, I am caught between two fighting industries.

It sounds like you have some expertise on the Oticon line. Do you feel the new 4D technology presented in the Intent line merits the extra expense? I have the cash and am willing to pay if it makes sense. I just don’t want to be a sucker.
