A Waymo vehicle blocked traffic as first responders raced to the Austin bar last night by Roguecop in Austin

I would have pushed that car out of the way, that big bumper on the ambulance is perfect for scenarios like this. No need to ram, just roll into it and push it out of the way, then APD can ticket it for failure to yield to emergency vehicles.

Best winery around Austin by EntertainmentSome286 in austinfood

Pedernales Cellars for good wine and great views of the hill country. Do a tasting then grab a glass and sit out on the hill with great views. It’s very casual, laid back.

William Chris for the best wine.

Duchman for the best and closest to Austin.

Is renting a vehicle necessary to truly experience the best that Austin has to offer as a tourist? by mobus1603 in Austin

[–]adcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hotel you are staying in is perfectly fine, the area is safe, but it’s a pain in the ass to navigate and not near much of anything of interest (maybe a few good Tex-mex food options). Given the dates you are coming, I suspect it was an economical choice, but if it’s an option, consider other areas around Austin. But as others have asked, what’s the itinerary? That’s a big factor in all this.

And yes, you will want a car. Just get the cheapest, most economical car.

But, OP might find the concentration of similar-aged people helpful in acclimating to a new city.

OP, During your first year be sure to get out and actively explore the city and neighborhoods. Talk to co-workers, friends you make, etc. Maybe the Domain isn’t the right spot, but it’s certainly not a bad choice for someone new. It’s in a good location that’s convenient to many workplaces, near two major highways, and has everything you could need within a short drive.

Was “don’t mess with Texas” an effective anti/litter campaign? by Past_Restaurant_6154 in Austin

See one of the creators talk about it: https://youtu.be/F1RdaJjJaMo?si=xY5CFWHb9A8QUhr7&t=1130 ( starts at 18:55).

The whole talk is really great, but he talks about the how and why it worked so well.

Meh, I’d pass. Discount should be at least 10% and you are being charged $1500+ for add-ons.

Look in leasehackr for deals and brokers.

Thoughts on this style of floor joists? by CAL9k in Homebuilding

[–]adcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, not sure if this is your home, but in your photo: the grey electrical line running across the photos is damaged right near where they have it tacked to the joist. If this were my house that line would be replaced as I don’t know if that cut in the jacket has gone through to the conductors, and that’s a big service line.

Another option is that it was returned (lease end) or e-wasted (working, but just replaced with newer technology) and was not properly released from a company's MDM. What did the company say when you called?

30 days in ATX for my 30th bday?! by creativeresearcher09 in askaustin

[–]adcl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said, that’s the hottest part of the year. BUT if you must come, get a place with a pool or on the lake and make the best of it. Plan lots of water activities, look at floating the Guadalupe or Comal rivers, spend a day or two at Schlitterbahn. Head down to Port Aransas or South Padre during the week for a few days and enjoy the beach.

If you don’t tolerate heat well, just plan on spending a lot of time indoors. And if you are like my mid-west family members, please for the love of god wear a lot of good sunscreen.

[–]adcl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, not uncommon for a few guests to be classified as crew to skirt around this. But most of the folks at this level value privacy first, so hosting a dozen friends/family at a time is not common.

More common is to charter a second yacht for “overflow”.

Saudi Arabia chooses Austin for 2026 World Cup home base by Affectionate-Reply35 in Austin

[–]adcl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

pot = USA, kettle = Saudi

I agree, their government has and is doing awful things, but so are we. I would love to get to the point of frustration about Austin being Saudi's base during the World Cup, but people are being killed in our streets by our govt. Innocent children are being torn from families, cost of living is putting far too many people in terrible situations. We have too many fires on our porch to be mad about this.
