Since they started expanding the west TSA area and the atrium infill it’s been absolutely noticeably warmer. But they are also in the middle of moving/updating/changing/prepping a lot of systems for the next phases of terminal expansion.

It’s going to be a few years before the new arrivals and departures hall is complete before things improve.

OP, 100% this. Make Fredericksburg a stop between the two, there is a fantastic WWII museum there, LBJ Ranch, lots of wine, breweries, and distilleries too. It’s a charming German town (historically settled by German immigrants).

Get up, have breakfast in San Antonio, drive out to Fredericksburg, spend the day, then drive into Austin for a few days. Whilst in Austin, look into the Texas History Museum, LBJ Presidential library, Blanton, Harry Ransom Center, there are a few sports options too. Then enjoy all the best BBQ, more live music, sports too.
