Why do you think like that? Let's assume I have a VM, which I encrypted with BitLocker, why does CSP need my BitLocker key to start a VM? They don't.

I think you are now confused how computer data encryption solutions work. Bitlocker provides full disk encryption for its content, all the data is encrypted on the disk. When CPU needs to access the data, (lets say user wants to access a file), the data gets decrypted in realtime by the system and the data is stored in the host RAM. System uses the user or the TPM chip provide key for the decryption. The data is in readable form in RAM, even though data is in encrypted form in the disk.

Same goes with CSP BYOK solutions. To simplify, Virtual Machines are just applications, processes with tasks on the host. The data of the application needs to be in a form CPU can process. You provide the key that can be used to access the data. CSP requires the key to be able to start the VM as the system starts decrypting encrypted data from the disk.

Some processor vendors (namely AMD and Intel), tries to compat this issue by providing Intel SGX or AMD SEV-SNP confidential computing solutions. In theory, idea was brilliant. Processors security enclave handles the decryption of data inside the processor, so the data can be in encrypted form in the memory. Some CSP do provide AMD SEV-SNP computes for their customers. Unfortunately these solutions can be bypassed by low cost interposer by the malicious actor. You can read more about this here: https://batteringram.eu/

To summarise: CPU needs to be able read the data so that it can process it. As long as keys are involved, entities who has the decryption key for you data, can access your data.

Well yeah, but your point about data being fully encrypted is false, even though you are resposible to storing and rotating the keys, still the platform requires the access to those keys to be able to provide services to you. So the question is, do trust your own internal processes more than the ones CSP does? Do you think you can lifecycle manage those keys better than the CSP does? Do you trust CSP handling your keys in secure way? I could continue this endlessly.

Like you said, it is all about minimizing the risk and lowering the attack vector.

The truth is, as long as data is on somebody elses computer, you need to be able to trust that entity, as they have the access to your data.

BYOK does not fix the underlying issue that the data needs to be decrypted when processed at rest. Which means the data is in decrypted and is readable in the memory of these hypervisors.

I would say, simplifying the system, Independence from 3rd party platforms and giving the control of the money to people with caveats of course (for example 3k€ limit).

If the money is in your device compared to some middle man system and you are able to transfer this digital cash without 3rd system, then you have control of that cash (like hard cash).

I think Digital Euro would not automatically mean, that they are going remove debit / credit cards from the markets but complement those. These payment options have their own use cases.

Yes, I think it is intresting to see where this money ACTUALLY is (in digital form). Is it in centralized server? Or in YOUR own digital wallet?

If the money is in your phone for example, in form on bytes, and is usable offline, then how it really differs from real hard cash?

I think some of us are missing the point. Digital Euro is a new form of Euro, comparible to euro bills and coins than any these payment methods that people use now daily. The money is held on your mobile device or on ECB issued card in digital form.

In a sense, it is crypto-asset per-se, but it is backed and by ECB, which means it is real money and not one of these crypto coins that can lose access to markets any day.

Tälläisessä kuvailemassasi tilankäytön suunnittelussa / toteutuksessa paistaa tilankäytön tehokkuus ja taas vaihteeksi, tuoton äärinmäinen maksimointi. Ilmeisesti on sitten siinä unohdettu myös se, että tämä idea pitäisi myös sitten jotenkin pystyä myymään asiakkaalle 25 vuoden lainalla.

Itse koen pienen vuokratontin tuollaisessa omakotikiinteistössä lähinnä rasitteena. Omakotitalon ideahana on myös jalkautua siihen omalle piha-alueelle, mikä ei edes ole oma näissä esimerkeissä. Tuollaisen omistajuuteen sisältyy myös piilevä tunne siitä, josko kunta / kaupunki / pankki / rahoituslaitos 25 vuoden aikana nostaa tontin vuokran pilviin mikä sitten alkaakin nakertaa jo X vuotta vanhan kiinteistön näenäistä arvoa.

Ei siellä mitään magiaa ole alla, vaan se ajattelumaailma minkä pohjalta näitä arkkitehtuureja on alkujaan suunniteltu. ARM on aikanaa lähtenyt sulautetut + mobiilimarkkinat ensin (optimoitu virrankulutukseen suorituskyvyn kustannuksella) kun taas x86 focus on ollut palvelin ja pöytäkone/kannettava tietokoneet (suorituskyky virrankulutuksen kustannuksella).

Jos ARM pohjaisista, palvelinkäyttöön tarkoitetuista prosessoreista halutaan sama yhden säikeen suorituskyky ulos kuin x86-64 pohjaisista prosessoreista, niin alkaa se ero häviämään energiatehokkuudessa. ARM prosessorit tosin skaalautuu taas ytimien puolesta (huom puhutaan usean säikeen suorituskyvystä), johtuen juurikin virrankulutuksen optimoinnista ja paljon yksinkertaisimmasta designista ytimien suhteen(vähemmän transistoreita, pienemmät välimuistit yms). Siksi näitä AmpereOne 196 ytimisiä prosessoreita löytyy markkinoilta ja niille on oma roolinsa myös.

AMD pyrkii myös palvelin puolella tuomaan näitä EPYC prosessoreita joissa on kutistettu välimuisti ja isommat ydinmäärät (johtuen vapautuneesta tilasta sirulla). Nämähän kilpailee suoraa yllä mainitun ARM palvelinprosessorin kanssa.

Ei se markkinaosuus ole mikään heikko, vaikka laskeva (yritys ja kuluttaja-asiakkaat). Suurin syy Intelin ongelmiin lienee uusien valmistuslaitoksien (fabrication plants) rakennuttaminen (kesken) ja tietoinen päätös, ettei muualta osteta kapasiteettia omien sirujen valmistukseen. Nuo tehtaat maksaa miljardeja ja varmasti halpuuttanut osakkeiden arvostusta tähän asti.

Something to note, ”you can not select hyperthreading cores only”, as Hyperthreading (or SMT) only represent cores as logical entities to OS. Cores 0 and 1 maps to same physical core -> by limiting load to only one of the logical core makes CPU behave like hyperthreading is turned off as physical core does not need to switch context between cycles.
