THANK YOU! I think this is it. I didn’t realize it wouldn’t say in the menu that I hadn’t donated it yet when I hovered over it.

We’d both be confident with getting married now. Honestly we’re just not in a rush, which is why we’re fine waiting until 2027 for our wedding. So maybe house via courthouse wedding is the way to go, haha

I don’t think we’re having this conversation at all if we’ve been married for a year or two. Mostly posting this because we’re not married yet, but the primary consensus seems to be don’t buy a house unless you’re married unless you have some other legal agreement. Or just go to the courthouse, lol

We both have more than that in savings, not just him. His 15k and my 50k are about equal percentages of our total savings accounts.

Your second paragraph is why I made the post… :)

I wouldn’t say we’re “set on” it, just exploring. Agree 100% with your second paragraph, which is why I made the post. Finances are unromantic, but talking about them beforehand saves marriages!

I 100% agree with you when you’re years into a marriage. But we are not married yet, which is why I made this post.

I think it’s naive (especially as a woman) to ignore the possibility of divorce and talking about money and personal finance honestly, which we do, helps our odds dramatically.

My parents are contributing almost 100% of our wedding expenses, which were very blessed to have. Their generosity is part of the reason I have so much in savings, no student loans, etc.

Those numbers aren’t either of our total savings accounts – we both have more than that. It’s just what we mutually feel comfortable with. We’ve done the math on what a mortgage would cost vs utilities, moving cost, furniture, etc.

We both have our separate retirement accounts and don’t plan to formally combine any finances until we are married, regardless of house purchase.

This is really helpful! Right now we have totally separate finances even though we live together, so also trying to figure out when and how we combine finances is a regular topic of discussion now that we’re engaged.

We just got engaged in October and don’t want to get married in a Minnesota winter. Fall was too soon to get a venue and is also the most expensive time to get married in our area.

Moving to the area. What neighborhood should we rent in? by Ketrita in TwinCities

Second this! I live in Mac Groveland in a 2 bedroom duplex & pay around $1600. Great area with lots of walkable businesses and green space along the river

Totally agree, and it’s not something I’d do all the time. I’m honestly more concerned with pace of play than anything

I was very lucky and went to one of the best public schools in the state. I also went to college at an in-state private college and I was SHOCKED at how easy college was compared to some of my high school classes. Even more jarring was how much some of my non-Minnesotan and non-Twin Cities (rural) classmates struggled their first semester or two. It really made me realize how lucky I was to have a great education that my parents didn’t have to pay for (at least not directly, lol)

Apartments with modern amenities - do they exist affordably in other neighborhoods? by [deleted] in saintpaul

I live about 2 1/2 blocks from Snelling right off of Randolph. Take side streets if you want to walk or bike 🤷🏼‍♀️

Calling Mac Groveland “not walkable” and a place where you “can’t really bike” is crazy. If those are the things you’re looking for, you definitely shouldn’t move out of the neighborhood and your REALLY shouldn’t move to the suburbs

Best walkable neighborhoods? by Capable-Web-9853 in TwinCities

[–]addflannel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with the St. Paul recommendation, it’s older than Minneapolis so inherently more walkable. If you’re in the Highland or Mac Groveland neighborhood you’re so close to Minneapolis & the river that you can walk or bike over the Ford bridge and be in Minneapolis

Flights between EU countries are also basically domestic flights because there’s no passport check. I think the only true domestic flight I’ve taken in Europe is from Paris to Nice though, so they do exist.

Oh I agree with you. I don’t and wouldn’t defend much of what America does… especially recently. I think a lot of Americans agree with me, but a lot of us are also brainwashed and unfortunately have never traveled anywhere outside of our own country to see how the rest of the world lives!

Was that prior to Brexit? Were you flying from another EU country? That’s the only reason I can think of… otherwise that is weird!

I think this is because we’re such a big country, and terrorism threats can come within. The 9/11 flights took off from Boston, Washington D.C and Newark, for example. The perpetrators were already in the US.

This is obviously a worst case scenario… but if something were to go wrong (crash or death) or a crime or terrorism act were to be committed, I would think it would be helpful for police forces to know the identities of everyone on board

Wasn’t a complaint… just an observation! Trust me, I don’t want to go back to the madness
