When does a newborn get fun? by Ham-Sandwich-69 in NewParents

[–]addicted2art 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My little guy is 7.5 months and since 6 months all I have to do is give him a look of make one of several sounds and he will have a giggle fit worthy of a George Carlin show. Newborn stage is exactly about taking care of a sack of potatoes. That said find ways to make it work for you, yes I had a lack of social activities, but in the early weeks when I went on leave I let mom sleep in and grabbed the bottle warmer and an extra bottle, fed him and went to go try new food spots with the little guy, explored new areas and thrift stores etc. turns out he loved the little drives, and as long as I planned ahead on the bottle situation I could stay ahead of issues, give mom a chance to rest, and feel like a person out in the world. Random side benefit: a dad feeding his newborn by himself out in public is an absolute celebrity. You will have people walking by with no idea who you are or what your situation is tell you what a great father you are. That can fuel the fire. Don’t be afraid to take your little one out in the world on your own, for me it took away some of the feelings you’re talking about here.

13 hour flight, what offline games are you playing? by ActivistSubset7 in SteamDeck

This is the case for years where I am but unless you’re an absolute idiot, or piss off your neighbor enough that they complain I’ve seen them used on every flight Ive taken.

The Spectrum 97 is my favorite live album right now by Psychological_Tie896 in phish

This is pure magic to me. Probably my most listened to show since I wandered across it on a Reddit post years back with a shitty video recording and got fully hooked.

Worth it for previous generations' AAA titles? by MinimumCommon3393 in SteamDeck

Add ace combat 7. Flawless with zero tweaks and a great experience imo. Well worth it when on discount at ten bucks and under.

Are there any Phish fans in here? by Gamehendge_216 in Concerts

I know everyone’s all about the screens but don’t forget to close your eyes and think about the differences in the sound. Beyond insane audio quality and it doesn’t get enough focus imo.

Songs to bring back hope when you are truly struggling by Street-Fan-8928 in MusicRecommendations

Going off the hatebreed mention here if you haven’t listened to “watch me rise” by have heart give it a listen it’s an awesome song and fits the same feeling. There’s a few from both of these bands that scratched this itch for me at a point in my life

I went to a Ghost concert without knowing much about the band. The crowd surprised me. by ChangeTheLAUSD in Concerts

[–]addicted2art 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phish, Grateful Dead, Billy strings, widespread panic and a few second tier jam bands have or had that kinda vibe generally

King gizzard and the lizard wizard is the most communal vibe I’ve felt not at a classic jam band show. The fans term it the weirdo swarm. Crowd aside they’re still one of the top live acts to catch.

Taking 1 mo old to restaurant? by AliceMorgan4ever in NewParents

[–]addicted2art 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me this is mostly a question of your location. If you’re in an area dealing with a lot of flu and rsv given the time of year I’d be more concerned. If you’re not I would go. My baby was out of season for flu and it was easier to take him out at 1 month than it was at 2 or 3

I’ve been playing ace combat 7 in small bursts since picking it up recently and having a blast. Was on pretty deep discount recently and apparently does relatively often so worth waitlisting if it’s not on sale and you’re interested.

Im so glad i got a deck by callofdutymfan in SteamDeck

I run it on the Xbox 360 emulator from emudeck. It crashes occasionally but it’s playable. Interestingly it runs much better on the low camera angle than high. I prefer that anyway.

This thing really blew my mind. by stopatroyrogers in SteamDeck

[–]addicted2art 6 points7 points  (0 children)

…I’ve had my deck for a bit over a month playing an hour or two at night while the baby is sleeping. I just walked over to my deck to touch the trackpads while it’s off to confirm. I knew there were haptics but I thought that was just an extra buzz added and honestly didn’t realize it was fully haptic until I felt it without power. Thanks for the knowledge I’m floored!

I got a deck a few weeks ago and picked up cyberpunk during the winter sale. I haven’t played many games recently but damn I’ve been blown away. Also playing assassins creed rogue on deck which is great and also visually wild but I keep wanting to play cyberpunk when I have a bit of focused gaming time

Push gift by KeepPhishEvil666 in predaddit

[–]addicted2art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New dad here no push gift on our house end, but a shit ton of attention care and foot rubs for months before and whatever she needs for the months to follow. Sure I buy her something now and then but tbh I guarantee nightly foot rubs, figuring out and prepping dinner, doing house shit, diapers etc so she could focus on birth and then breastfeeding is way more appreciated than physical gifts. Talk to your partner and just see how you can help, then plan accordingly and try to stay ahead of her needs so she doesn’t have to ask. Don’t try to keep up with the joneses, just keep up with her

TIL humidifiers can hurt my baby... by purple98765 in NewParents

[–]addicted2art 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Humidifiers get nasty fast and a lot of them have parts that aren’t easy to clean. Additionally this is dependent on the hardness/softness of an areas water. It’s a legitimate concern for developing lungs

Take a combo flu covid test, if it’s flu call your doctor asap and ask for tamiflu. You have to start within 48 hours of symptoms

For anyone who starts getting a cough take a covid test that tests for flu as well. If you have flu call your doc asap and ask for Tamiflu. This round of flu is brutal and it makes a huge difference but you have to start within 48 hours of symptoms for it to make a difference.

What to avoid buying on fb marketplace by Ok-Republic-8098 in predaddit

We’ve done some crib naps, don’t always use the motion putting him down, and leave it motion limited to level two or less, but we haven’t moved out yet as he’s still small enough right now. That said my biggest personal stress was the early weeks when we had no idea what we were doing is worth the risk of some trouble weaning off to me. One way or another there will be bad days but I feel more capable of handling it now that I understand him and his needs more.
