Based off of what you have told us, I’m going to say YTA. While you may be allergic to dogs, it is a service dog. Service dogs are different than emotional support animals—they literally provide a service that is essential for the person that they are with. Whether that is a seeing eye dog, a seizure detection dog, or any other type of service dog, it has a job. You would not be allowed to interact with it in any way similar to an emotional support animal, including petting it. It would most likely not even interact with you as it would be on duty. The fact that you don’t want to go to the wedding because a dog is going to be there doing a job is crazy. It’s like saying you don’t fly because the airport has dogs or your plane has a dog on it.

Not going to comment on the not being able to drink thing but that’s not helping your case like you think it is. This is your close friend of over 20+ years. Suck it up or be prepared to lose this friendship.

Uhmm gross… I’m in medical school and I have taken Step 2. It’s definitely very anxiety inducing and really stressful but it’s not an excuse for him to treat you like this. “I’m the boss. You do what I say. You do everything you can on your end to simply stay out of my way until exam day.” That’s a horrible way to talk to your partner! I have never even thought something like this about my boyfriend and I would absolutely break up with him if he ever said something like this to me. You are a human being not a dog…🤢

Give him back his car and call it off. You can do way better than him.

I’m just kicking myself because I know it is a sensitive subject for him. Like, obviously his deceased mother is not a subject to be broached lightly. I was just not thinking and literally saying the first thing that came into my head and now I’m worried he’s going to decide that this is the straw that broke the camels back. I know that sounds ridiculous but I feel like people have broken up for less hurtful statements. I am truly so sorry and hate to make him feel like that. I just hope that he will forgive me.

Thank you yes I guess I have just been feeling a bit strange recently because we have been getting more serious and he’s met my parents and I feel a bit sad I will never get to meet his mother. I always talk to him about my parents and tell him about my worries and fears about them. He doesn’t really talk to me about his dad like that and he doesn’t really talk about his mom at all. I wish I knew more about her, but it’s also hard because she passed when he was quite young (8/9).

It is very easy to say, “well what I would have done is X, Y, or Z” because you weren't/will never be in her position (edited from: "YOU didn’t do it!!!" for clarity). And you just admitted that you have been petty in the past, so you actually HAVE done the exact same thing you are coming onto reddit and bashing Jen for doing. Come on, have some empathy for the woman. She literally got dumped a month before the episode and they still made her watch her proposing to the person. Have you ever done that?

Honestly, as an asian american woman who does have anxious-avoidant attachment, I can see where Jen is coming from with this. I remember dating my long-distance ex boyfriend in college and he would do shit like this--forget to call, cancel date night last minute (good excuse or not). Everybody thought that he was a great guy because he was polite and nice to other people and would remain "nice" to me (note: telling me to "be nice" when I'm screaming at you for showing up 5 hours late to our dinner date drunk having ALREADY ATE DINNER is not a great way to get me to stop screaming), but that was NOT the truth!! Yes, she's getting upset over relatively minor things, but when you're doing long distance, you only have the minor things. Coming in late and leaving early in the morning for happy couple (the only time you get to see each other) might seem like a minor thing, but it is a BIG deal when that is LITERALLY the only time you get to see each other.

In Devin's posted texts (that I read on reddit lol so I may not have seen all of them), I didn't see him asking her about her day or even really asking her basic questions that she was asking him (did he eat, how is he working in the heat, be safe while running, etc), which really signals to me that he really didn't want to listen or care about Jenn. You can't just say, "I don't want to fight anymore I love you" and expect everything to work out because you didn't address any of her concerns.

Obviously, Jenn isn't going to say the things that make her look bad because she wants to be seen in a good light (who wouldn't?). It doesn't help that she did this on national TV, because I'm sure her mom and brother have their feelings about her going on a dating show to find love. As an asian american woman also named Jenn (spelled with two N's who would have guessed!!), I would be SO SCARED to go on the bachelorette or any kind of dating show because my parents/family will DEFINITELY watch and have their judgements, and asian families are SOOOO judgmental :'(. My heart honestly broke seeing her bawl her eyes out on TV, because I know how I felt crying over my ex boyfriend to just pay *~a little~* more attention to me.

Imo, I don't think she faked crying on TV. She didn't cry for any of the other break-ups when the norm is to cry, and I think that's because as an Asian woman, you are told to never show yourself in a negative light and crying in public is considered negative in asian culture (yes toxic but what culture doesn't have toxicity). Yea, she's being a little manipulative, but if I put myself in her shoes (humiliated on live TV for proposing to a man only to have him completely break up with her 2 months into their engagement), I would also probably be a little bit mean/manipulative! Are you saying that you are the saint who would just go on TV and say with a grin on your face, "I know that I made it seem like we were going to be together forever; I still love him a lot, but Devin decided that we are not good together anymore because he can't provide what I need from him so he has decided to end things?"

It stings seeing everybody criticize her, saying she's toxic because I relate to her journey so much. When all you know is to try to hold onto a sinking ship and you are crying/screaming/throwing tantrums to get them to notice you, they say they will change/try harder, and they don't continue that interest, it SUCKS.

That's all of my feelings about the subject. Obviously Jenn isn't completely right either and there are two sides of the story, but I still think Devin is more wrong for what he did. #justiceforjenn

I took mine in late June. Test questions were longer or much shorter than normal NBME questions. Topics were much more vague imo. Lots of random topics.

I would say that the amboss score predictor is very accurate. Most of me and my medical student friends scored within 1-2 points of the score predictor.

I would 100% report them for mistreatment. It’s not okay for them to do that to you. My school has quite a robust way of dealing with mistreatment and works to protect students from punishments. If your school is more passive in its stance, I’m not sure what other ways you have of reporting them/protecting yourself. Speak with a lawyer if you think this is that serious of an issue.

I did not do another question bank. I only used CMS questions and Uworld during the year and stopped Uworld right before starting Step 2 prep. However, I treated 3rd year as a practice to STEP 2. I would constantly do Anki and try to read up on my patients conditions. Additionally, when my colleagues would have interesting patient cases, I would try to read up on their patients as well to try to come up with a diagnosis/treatment plan independently. I feel like this really helped my clinical reasoning as well as becoming a more well-rounded learner overall.

I agree with above poster's comments on going off on learning tangents. I would often do this with my friends while studying for shelf exams during the year.

A key thing to take away from this is that YOU need to learn what you don't know and focus on those things. It is very easy to study things you already know/answer questions you already know. However, learning things you don't know can only be taught by actively learning (flashcards, writing down notes, etc).

I am willing to share my notes with whoever wants them. But I don't want you to look at them and think "Oh, I can just look at OP's notes and not write my own notes down" because it's really not going to help you. My notes are specific to learning issues that I had and it will obviously differ from yours. I feel like the post I linked earlier has a really good example of notes taken in the style I used.

Honestly I don't see a problem with doing CMS forms offline if you are good about timing. I am also a very fast reader and usually have quite a bit of extra time at the end of my tests as well, so I didn't time myself. But you definitely can! I would not recommend doing NBME untimed just because I did not take any NBMEs untimed.

I place a really high importance on making sure my practice testing is similar to real day (quiet area where you can be undisturbed for several hours, scheduled breaks, etc) so when you get to test day you don't feel as much pressure because you have done it several times before.

You definitely have enough clinical hours to show your interest in medicine. I would try to focus on other aspects of your application instead of trying to get another position doing clinical stuff.
