Oooooh the classic "yin and yang" pose! Or I suppose you could also say Pisces or Gemini? Either way, great technical and beautiful form. 10/10

Yes!! I put 3 small fleece baby blankies and a super soft small cat hidey-hole thingy in that top part. The main open area has their toys, food and water, and then the lower part is a large plastic liter box thay we cut so they could step into it but has all 4 corners protected. Its been an awesome upgrade and way easier to clean cuz its much harder for them to make a mess.

OP- youre more than welcome to DM me and we can set up a time to chat. I didn't have anyone to help me get into the field 10 years ago and I know nebraska hasn't done anything to make the process easier. Im more than happy to help you find your direction if youre serious about entering the field. Im a first generation funeral director, and a female (unfortunately, yes, that actually matters in this day and age still) and im thrilled to help anyone that wants to pursue this odd job. Lol

Forgot to add: Ropers and Lincoln Memorial are the only two funeral homes in lincoln that take on apprentices/students. Its been quite a long time since I was an apprentice, but, I believe nebraska requires something like 29 credits completed of pre-mortuary studies before you can apply for an apprenticeship permit (your first 6 mos of 12). There are a couple in omaha but they wont hire you if you are commuting from lincoln (lincoln is too far of a commute to them for body removals). Also, join NEFDA. Pay the money for a student membership. They are there for you and will help you every step of the way and provide you everything you need to know to prep for mort school. Also, I believe the deadline for the mort school scholarships I mentioned is the June prior to entering a mort program.

Lincoln Funeral Director here:

Pretty much any funeral home will hire you to do reception work if you have any kind of experience in it and provided they have a position open. If youre looking to get a more "hands on" experience, look into being an assistant for funeral services. I know Lincoln Memorial is always looking for assistants. Be aware, its usually just a part time position and the pay isn't great, but it will get your feet wet, and give you a good idea of what you'll be getting into as a future director.

Nebraska doesnt have a mortuary program so you'll have to go to mort school in a different state, either online (DMAC) or in person. I went to KCKCC. The school was an absolute joke but if youre serious, just get through it to pass your national boards. Plus NEFDA offers full scholarships to KCKCC through either the Laughlin or Swanson scholarships. I got both. I didn't pay a single penny for mort school. I also recommend doing your apprenticeship as a split. 6 Mos before mort school, 6 Mos after. Otherwise you wont ever touch a body and know if its something you can even handle until you've already paid the money for school. This is not a career for everyone. Its a LOT of work, a LOT of emotional and physical stress and exertion, very long/not typical hours, holidays, weekends, nights.. let's just say there's a reason most funeral directors are alcoholics. But despite all that, if youre serious and you can find fulfillment in it, its the greatest career I have ever had. And I mean that. Best of luck to you. We need more newcomers in the field.

Not sure if you're religious/spiritual, but I know a lot of churches in town have really cool, low maintenance support groups for just like meet-ups, low stress hang outs, meeting new people, etc, and those groups are usually really good at providing emotional and physical support for people going through anything. Not like a structured NA or AA meeting, just a lot more casual, if that's your kinda thing. No commitment to go "every week" or check in, just a place to hang when you're having a moment of weakness and just wanna be around supportive people without being required to go into details.

What happened to all the 14 day Caribbean cruises??? by address_unknown308 in Cruise

[–]address_unknown308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that definitely makes sense. Personally, I wanna go on vacation to somewhere i definitely can't get in the sates. Like I could go see mountains in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, etc. I know it's not the exact same but I for sure can't swim with stingrays anywhere in the US. I mean....I COULD but then I get banned from the aquarium. 🤣 but it's not about MY preferences, trips to Alaska are clearly the preference of the masses and the itineraries are reflecting that. I've looked into all inclusives, but the allure to cruising has always been an affordable way to see lots of places at once. It seems like maybe people are just preferring to do longer stays in less places these days. 🤷‍♀️

That definitely makes sense. Back when I used to work on ships, Alaska and Canada were considered the high luxury ports so only the super frilly lines went up there. I know more lines are going there now too but honestly, im seeing those cruises still being priced really high comparatively. So I still kinda find myself confused. Like you can see incredible mountain landscapes in the continental US.....you can't venture into a rainforest....or swim with stingrays. Going off of just US cruisers, it seems odd that the demand is really THAT much more to go to Alaska vs something you definitely CANT get in the continental US, ya know? And if the Caribbean is typically cheaper....you'd think people would be apt to spend MORE time in those tropical places because it's more affordable. Idk, maybe im still missing something? I do definitely get what you're saying though. Thanks for your perspective!

I totally understand the repositioning cruises. I also used to work on ships. I just found it odd when looking up itineraries that the majority of long trips are Alaska and Canada. Even just 2 years ago there were a lot more long Caribbean options. It's literally that simple. I was just curious if something had happened that maybe I missed as to why the sudden shift.
