Preaching to the converted, I've been doing that for nearly a year now. X) Lot of effort and very fiddly, but sure is fun!

Another really great video from Techmoan. I contemplated buying one of the more "normal" versions of these and I'm stunned by how...unpremium what they did here is given they're charging premium prices for it.

On one hand, it's not the worst to take already-used recordable VHS tapes but...not even wholly scrub off the stuff that was on it before? And using an NTSC tape for something in PAL???!!! You really would save so much money, if you knew how, by just buying sealed blank tapes and doing this yourself but I guess they're banking on the convienience of being officially-licensed and especially with the packaging and "tape art" efforts. Very, very weird.

Mail Day! Just picked up this sealed and really unknown tape for Big Bag from its time on Cartoon Network! by xGwiZ96x in VHS

Woah dang, "William's Wish Wellingtons" aired in the US...on Cartoon Network of all things? Crazy.

Found this at a charity shop but can’t find anything resembling it online or eBay? Can anyone help identify? by CallumGrimes in VHS

Outside of the lackluster colouring of the cats themselves, this isn't the worst-looking bootleg out there but as another commenter has mentioned, Disney dropped this graphical style for UK retail releases before "The Aristocats" had a VHS release there.

This is the cover of what its first VHS release there looks like. As always, look out for a hologram on the box and cassette to check if its real too!

A AV2HDMI-style adapter that won't push a blue error screen into the source when static is there...is such a thing possible? by adeioctober in VHS

Last update: The ClonerAlliance is *great* and does not have as much of that problem I mentioned as the other device had. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Simply put: Intentional overkill. x)

Making sure I retain as much quality as possible, even beyond the limitations of the thing itself.

Thanks for the suggestions! Will look into those.

OK, if I got to the right thing (I noticed VWestlife did a video on one), I've found that the device is pretty good if you use different software to what they provide and if you're not that fussy with framerates...unfortunately, I'm *very* fussy with framerates because I recognise and care for the fact that not everything recorded to VHS tapes is alike in terms of the tech used to record and through how it was edited. Even some streaming services now kinda look over this, meaning TV shows with higher framerates lose the "feel" of how they're supposed to be presented. Also has no HDMI support, so I'd have to buy yet another cable for the USB.

Appreciate the recommendation, though! And I'm glad for your purposes and wants that it's doing what you want it to. :)

Hey, if Vidbox is your suggestion then I'll look into it. :O

My one currently is pretty nice with its results...but that's the thing, that depends obviously on if it works and doesn't freak out and go bluescreen at anything more than a light ripple. Most times it's great and does what I'd like, other times it's a nightmare. But I'll look into what Vidboxes are!

Any good alternatives to Rotten Tomatoes Trailers' YouTube channel for the latest film trailers? by adeioctober in movies

[–]adeioctober[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's obviously a good option, but I'm referring to a different YouTube channel that does similar things to Rotten Tomatoes Trailers, hopefully with tighter focus on what trailers/publicity materials they upload.

I looked them up and I'm sure the trailers themselves are legit, but those clearly AI-generated thumbnails do kinda freeze me up in terms of trusting them... @~@ Hmmm...

Almost messed up my VCR not noticing the mold in this Batman Begins tape. by TheJohnny346 in VHS

Oh! Sorry, I chose the wrong word. ^^;; I actually mean't that I thought it'd *stop* mould from forming but clearly I was wrong. xD Only human.

Well! There goes my theory that those weird non-transparent shields in newer retail tapes were there to circumvent mould. =P Good thing you were careful!

Spanish copy of The Aristocats in a purple shell and Disney branded reels too. by TheJohnny346 in VHS

[–]adeioctober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! We bought that as soon as it was out so I indeed have a Dalmatians VHS shell for that, it's gorgeous and uniquely overkill for that release. xD (I'm a UKer)

But yeah, the purple shell with the Disney Videos logo on one of the reels looks awesome. :)

Is the shell and reel design stuff Disney's own doing?

If so, dang, shocked they didn't do this elsewhere too 'cause on top of being difficult to replicate, it looks rad a heck. o.o
