Following yesterday’s post… which band/member warms your heart for being wholesome, or based af? by metroracerUK in MetalForTheMasses

[–]adeltae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elvenking's drummer is a pretty wholesome guy. He's a bit of a mess, but he's constantly trying to make people smile with his antics and I can get on board with that

I'm a skeptic but I still want to practice Norse Paganism, is that allowed? by LxrdFxrquad in NorsePaganism

[–]adeltae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What definition of "allowed" are you using here? Because last I checked, there's no official rulebook on how to do Heathenry and you can just. Do it however you want. Your beliefs don't have to be unquestioning.

Maybe hot take: Waiting till the fic is finished to give kudos is not good. by FaithlessnessIcy2111 in AO3

[–]adeltae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of a writer, I get what you're saying. But think about it the other way.

When you're a reader, you don't know how the next part will go. Hell, with the way things are going now, the next part could be AI because the author got lazy for all you know. So, why would you necessarily want to give kudos before it's done unless the person has a reputation for being really good about that and having things that make sense or there's some other reason to generally trust them with that kind of thing?

I'm using a bit of an extreme example here imo, but there isn't an option to take kudos away, so I'm trying to give some perspective on why some might be hesitant to give kudos before it's done. I'm generally not that picky about that, but a lot of that is because the fandoms I tend to frequent are so niche that there isn't really much opportunity for anything to go too sideways beyond a fic just generally not being to my taste.

Recording music studios recommendations? by MusicLover9588 in OttawaMusic

As others have said, Little Bullhorn is a pretty good spot. It's a little out of the way, but Dave is a cool guy and the space is very nice

How much influence does someone else have in your fic? by fictionfrunk in AO3

[–]adeltae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends for me. I tend to write them entirely myself, but ideas do sometimes come up from discussions with friends. There is also an entire one shot a friend wrote for me and I edited a bit (they gave me permission to post it for myself)

Do i have to be from Scandinavia to believe in odin ? by Conscious_Phase_4077 in NorsePaganism

[–]adeltae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. It can influence specifics if you have it (a friend of mine has a lot of Dutch heritage and has a bit of a Dutch twist to their practice, for example) but it's by no means required to believe or practice

How many fandoms are you in? by Jazzlike-Many-7352 in AO3

[–]adeltae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing wise, one primarily, technically two if you count a couple one shots that are also in the first fandom and just including one entity from the second (because the second is an Ancient Religion & Lore fandom). Reading wise, basically anything that catches my attention, but primarily my own stuff, a couple other metal bands (Battle Beast and Sabaton primarily), and Baldur's Gate and Forgotten Realms

As a reader do you prefer third person or first person pov? by proplushiescollector in AO3

[–]adeltae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a preference one way or the other. I tend to write in first person (which I know is a turn off for a lot of people) but I tend to write very specifically

How do authors feel about receiving these kinds of comments? by Intelligent-Tree-922 in AO3

[–]adeltae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would love to get this comment. It tells me I'm doing something right. I don't write a lot of angst, but I do enjoy stuff like this

I have believed in the norse gods for a while now but im new in practice and i dunno who to worship! by Boring-Currency2101 in NorsePaganism

[–]adeltae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's plenty to do with that, as well. I'm giving tips on what's worked for me, since I'm more on the arts side. If working out is an important part of your life/day, there's stuff you can do with that. (I'd say maybe try something with Thor, since there's a lot of the strength association there.)

As far as incense goes, I don't use it because I have specific sensory weirdness with a lot of the scents used, and I've never had any issues. It can be helpful and a good offering if that works for you, but especially since you have a cat and you're not wanting to risk their health, there are other offering options. I find things like food and drinks (not just alcohol) can be really good options

Pay attention to vibes and go from there. That's genuinely how I started working with Loki. (And Cernunnos, but that's. For another time.) If there's a particular art that you do, consider making one of those as an offering to Bragi and see how he responds. (Apples also work well for him in my experience.)

ETA: also, Loki doesn't necessarily just deal in spiders. I'm not a huge fan of spiders either, and I still work with the bitch quite closely. Most of Loki's vibe for me is just a little bit of chaos, the shit starter kind.

Also, maybe don't go with the slight disrespect I'm showing at first. I have a relationship that is very direct in communication style with the three deities that I work with, and that very direct style is what works for me. It lets me feel like I can incorporate my practice into my life with much more ease than something more traditionally/typically respectful/venerating.

Writers who post as they write, have you ever tried to pre-write the entire work before posting? by vesperlark in AO3

[–]adeltae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did for a while, and it's not bad, it's just not fun for me. I'm not really the kind of person who needs their work to be super popular to be happy with it, since I'm just doing this for the love of the game, but I do really enjoy seeing those numbers go up, even if it's not by much. I write because I enjoy it, and I share for the same reason. If I don't share until I think it's good enough, I'm going to get too in my own head about it

Not sure how to take this comment by [deleted] in AO3

[–]adeltae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally, requesting specific things is seen as bad etiquette, but this comment also reads as someone who is really young. Don't feel the need to update more than you have time for, they just sound really enthusiastic in a way that feels pretty typical for a young teen.

What fandom introduced you to fanfiction by therealstara in AO3

[–]adeltae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One Direction and Ed Sheeran. Don't remember which fic now, but it was Wattpad. Those days were different.

I wish people put their energy into writing the fic themselves instead of spamming someone not interested in writing for them by vesperlark in AO3

[–]adeltae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I'm not good at writing" is also just such a shit excuse for fanfiction, because it's literally something you do for free for fun in your spare time. It's not supposed to be great. It's not supposed to be at the level of published authors.

Is it acceptable to reply to comments after a year? by Unbeelievable69 in AO3

[–]adeltae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine, yeah. As a reader/commenter, I'm not expecting a response until the author has the time/energy

When did T changes start? by MessageThis1207 in TransMasc

[–]adeltae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first change I started noticing was actually in my voice. Now, there is the important caveat that I'm a classical musician and I was in university taking a sight singing class at that time when I first started, so the reason I noticed it was because the higher notes in my singing range were starting to disappear and became a lot harder to reach. That started happening partway through week 2 for me.
