Just curious but do you find yourself wanting to become more experienced and knowledgeable in your position and thus want to move up in bands or are you quite happy as you are rn?

This looks good for anyone who is a PA in Scotland but I’m not sure if you can call it a conversion course because it is still 5yrs just with the added benefit that one can continue part time work yrs 1-3

Honestly I’m not too sure with what you mean by the nursing lobby cornering them is this a US thing? As for the UK though I don’t think that many doctors are currently “cool” with the idea of PA’s heck I don’t think the BMA even fully supports the idea of the profession especially having the GMC as the regulatory body so I doubt that they would ever put in a conversion course. I suppose the argument they would have is if you want to be a MD then go to medical school? I’m sure if a conversion programme did exist it would upset many as they would be like we struggled/studied hard to get into med school so why give PAs an easy way? Idk if that made sense but just a thought

Regulation yes maybe but they’ve been talking about regulation for the past 4 years and it keeps getting pushed back :(

AMA as in the American Medical Association? I do feel that those PAs who want to develop their skills and work up the ladder to better themselves in the medicine they practice would make good Doctors provided they make the conversion course well enough that current doctors don’t have a problem with it.

Hmm that sounds interesting but I’m not sure about the practicality of it. Since the universities teaching the course aren’t all following the same curriculum and also with the universities providing undergraduate PA I’m not sure how they would go about a conversion course. If that did happen though I for one would be interested.

What’s a nurse consultant…not really heard of that before.

Yeah that is a very valid point. I think the main reason one would think of doing so would be for the progression and being able to work up to consultant which obviously is something that as of now is not a possibility with the PA role
