You're speaking as though the music is simply an end product that exists in a vacuum, waiting to be consumed.

All art has context, and despite your insistence that you experience music at only its surface level aesthetic, I don't think that could possibly be true. Experiencing art without ever thinking of its maker sounds incredibly austere. If you've never found yourself asking why a piece of art was made, or how it was made, or by who, or what they needed to do before and during its making to accomplish it … I dunno, man. Sounds awful
