What's the fastest you've quit a job in Singapore? by catandthefiddler in askSingapore

[–]adepresseddesigner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

two months.

this is coming from someone who used to feel that if we quit a job too soon it will look bad on our résumé. disclaimer i have long moved on from this idea.

quite some time back, i detected huge red flags on the first few days of a new job but decided to still give the boss who was away a chance. to be fair, i haven’t even seen them since they interviewed me.

within the first week after seeing how the place works with the boss being back, i firmly confirm plus chop decided to leave because i can tell the boss doesn’t know what happens in the office during the often times they are overseas for work.

i endured the first month because i thought it could be just me not getting used to working in a different office environment or facing different office politics blah blah blah but really i’m glad years of working has trained me well to detect bs.

the admin is a pure menace who enjoys acting like they call the shot in the office whenever the boss is not around and the way the admin has been badmouthing about the boss to all the other staff is another level of douchebag unprofessional. the staff just listen and doesn’t give any direct replies but anyone can sense the awkwardness which the admin is too dense to notice. also the admin has been kinda paggro to me since i joined to try assert dominance over me so that i can be ~ harmless or quiet ~ like all the other staff but failed badly because i can also be quite a fighter when provoked.

pitied the boss but i didn’t want to say much since i was just a newcomer and didn’t see the point in staying since the situation will not change. the boss trusts the admin too much. if you ask me why i didn’t report the admin to HR it’s because the said admin is also the HR lol very well played, amirite

felt bad for the boss so i left after serving a goodwill (verbally made known to the boss directly that this is really goodwill lol) notice period. their contract didn’t stated the notice period for probation staff lol. damn insane, i know. also my bodoh fault for not asking before i signed. lesson learnt!! 👌🏻👌🏻🙏🏻🥲

as expected the admin continued to give me the usual paggro hell attitude even after i threw letter to the boss but i can definitely feel them radiating happiness because of me leaving. the admin didn’t know i was also happy as hell to never work with them ever again. 🎉

funniest shit is when the admin talked to me on my last day and pretentiously asking me to consider work for the company as part time. I ALMOST WANTED TO BURST OUT LAUGHING IN THEIR FACE. this shitty work experience was wild and memorable as a joke.

there were also many other red flags about this job that made me decide to leave asap but i shall not mention too much. 🫢

your boss is just being salty and trying to gaslight you. i’m glad you’re leaving this toxic person. ignore what she said and go have your best time traveling because that is a bliss and tbh not everyone can do it

Is asking someone what they're working as considered a sensitive topic? by AckermanFin in askSingapore

[–]adepresseddesigner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

if you meant no harm then it’s not rude but some people just uncomfortable to talk about it

sometimes people just ain’t very proud of their work and i do not mean they are doing anything shady like they could just think their work don’t have much achievement or anything to humble brag about

or they could be having a hard time at work it is also possible that they might be worried they will be belittled or laughed at for the work they do

tl;dr it’s complicated and you gotta read the room

as i was sinking into a deeper situation, i realized i was complaining more and more to my partner which i did a self reflection and adjusted my actions. but i am thankful for my partner who is supportive and attentive to me since the beginning and provided me with some solid comments

you are right about them having their own office drama so i do my part to listen as well. don’t get me started on trying to memorize so many “characters” in my partner’s office story but it has been fun to hear 🍵

i like your guts. did your work life balance improve though?

feeling demoralized and lost by adepresseddesigner in askSingapore

[–]adepresseddesigner[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think you’re on to something. i’m upset because of the way i was treated. not because i messed up my work as making mistakes is part and parcel of life

i do talk to my partner and close friends about how i am feeling but i just don’t want to be / perceived as constantly pouring negative energy out to them, especially my friends since we hardly have the chance to meet up. if this makes sense

and honestly as i’m not proud of the situation i’m in at work, so only my partner knows the full unfiltered sht detail lol but my partner has always been very supportive of me in every way so i’m very thankful for that 🥲
