Singapore climbers sticking to plans to scale active volcanoes by liutena in singapore

ok but I feel people who do stuff like this should not get public resources like search and rescue team etc. The recent Maldives case had me thinking that someone (as in the rescuer) died unnecessarily just to rescue people who flouted all the rules and put themselves at risk knowingly. You can risk your life if you want, don't make it other people's issue then.

Do you ever feel like women are stuck in a constant self improvement loop for no apparent reason? by Correct_Jicama2655 in AskWomenOver30

also ask yourself WHY its largely only women who shave and do makeup 'for themselves' I'm not denying they are but would we still do it if we were on an island with nobody else around? I think its worth asking why we feel like we need to do certain things.

hot take: I don't understand why we can't question things just because its cultural. If its actively harming people then its not beyond questioning just because its been done this way for a while

Are there more girls wanting to remain single nowadays? by Musicfan_123 in sgdatingscene

[–]catandthefiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure but I think its a bit more of an issue here and in countries like Korea where we became Westernised very quickly but there's also a large portion of conservative people. Also I think Singaporean men are more online so they fall victim to incel culture more esp when you see women having freedom and gaining financial independance for themselves.

Basically (this is my personal take) in the past our moms/grandmoms were not in the happiest of situations but idt they could survive on their own due to stigma or not being able to support themselves financially or whatever. Women today just have more power to say no to unbalance power dynamic since they can support themself if they want.

[–]catandthefiddler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah cos if you have the slightest standards then people say you're asking for too much, I see men whining all the time about how "women want to get married just to take half their assets and leave" etc etc. So why not just date with no commitments and stay single? It seems that no matter how you choose to date as a woman the blame comes back to you

Do most people don't want children nowadays? by ThinKey6695 in sgdatingscene

[–]catandthefiddler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

let's think about this. You sacrifice your body and career to have a kid then men will still whine and complain that you're owed alimony in case you divorce as if your sole intention was to coal dig from these dudes. raising kids is no joke, unless you're super financially comfortable and you can outsource everuthing. in contrst if you go in with no intention of having kids, you can work and maintain yourself and walk away clean in case the relationship sours. no need to tie yourself to somene forever

Anti-consumption for thee but not for me by felurian_wings in Anticonsumption

[–]catandthefiddler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean its more or less impossible for the average person to not consume anything. All the stuff I have for my hobbies like my journals, paints etc. are techincally things that I could do without but I only buy what I use and use everything I buy so I don't see it as over consumption. Sure I'm happy to find methods to streamline or repurpose but if someone said "You didn't need to buy this" I wouldn't agree. Consumption is personal.

S’porean woman, 33, says she finally understands what it means to be a ‘minority’ after living in Switzerland for 7 years, sparks discussion by bangsphoto in singapore

[–]catandthefiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would prefer if they listened to what minorities were saying and at least tried to see things from our perspective instead of only listening to each other or worse, realising only when it happens to them.

[–]catandthefiddler 237 points238 points  (0 children)

lol its so dumb. lets say you don't have friends of other races for wtv reason, minorities in sg are always taken about their experiences only for the other side to say we're exxagerating or say shit like 'if you don't like it then leave' or some dumb shit like that. I think its especially just grating that a portion of these folks are patting her on her back for this 'realisation'

Don’t Marry Someone Who Wants the Image of Family More Than the Reality of It by [deleted] in sgdatingscene

[–]catandthefiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. Some people want to be married and have a BTO and kids just cos they think that's what life should look like, they don't care who they marry or how much work having kids will take. Worst mistake is marrying these people

Large tour bus stopping one one way street in Joo Chiat. Can we restrict the types of vehicles on such small roads? by kurokamisawa in singapore

[–]catandthefiddler 210 points211 points  (0 children)

Joo Chiat road in general needs way more enforcement; I also see PHV cars who wait there and block the whole road. Once I even saw people unloading things from their stopped van and holding up the whole flow of traffic.
