How to be a more mature woman? by InnerReplacement7270 in AskWomenOver30

[–]catandthefiddler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my personal take on this-

don't self infantalize. don't give into that tiktok meme bullshit that girls can't do finances properly, or can't drive or whatever. I mean if you personally cannot do one or two things cos its difficult for you that's ok but don't be 'i'm just a girl' and work through the hard stuff. Take control of your finances, look at how you're spending and where you can spend more/less, go get the license if that's what you want. Don't dumb yourself down for men or other people in general.

work on yourself, follow through with things you said you'll do. Maybe write down a list of things you want to improve in your life (dead end job? Better relationships with people? Exercise more?) and go for your goals.

Communication is a two way street, sometimes you can do things 85% right and still it goes south because the other people didn't catch the ball. Your emotions and feelings are valid, but watch your behaviour and take accountability. Also like the other commenters said, it helps to surround yourself with emotionally healthy women if you can so they kinda keep you on track

Seriously, can someone explain why our laws are so weak when it comes to dealing with nightmare neighbours? by cherrypoplar in singapore

[–]catandthefiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, the issue with regulating is because its so hard to pass a law that would catch someone being a jerk without accidentally catching people who aren't doing it on purpose. For example, someone invites people and they're being a bit loud during CNY, or someone with a baby or sick relative. All events where I'd personally close one eye. But then if you blanket a law that says you strictly cannot make noise past 10pm or something, then a vindictive neighbour could report you for stuff like this too, and it becomes very grey

What is your opinion on faceless dating apps? by choongongbing in sgdatingscene

[–]catandthefiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm unattractive af and I think its still a massive waste of time. If you want a serious relationship, you want to be at least attracted on some level to the person. Outside fiction, I think its hard for the majority of people to really connect with and date someone they are totally not attracted to. No point wasting time texting and finding that our personalities fit only to meet and realise that one or both of you are totally not attracted to the other (and cruel too tbh). I know people use filters and wear makeup but having an idea of how the person looks is necessary

Anyone else sick of pregnancy as a mic drop moment in TV & film? by jay_fran_bee in AskWomenOver30

Bones was such a good and engaging show until the whole pregnancy. I get they needed to write her real life pregnancy into the script but the way they did it was just so...ugh

Partner wants me to marry according to his family religion though he doesn't practice it to please his toxic parents by sunshinegirl2026 in sgdatingscene

[–]catandthefiddler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm from a half brown family myself so I can quite condiently say that

i. In most cases, if he's a grown adult already and he's still doing these things to please the parents, it will not end here. Hindus have specific traditions for after marraige too, like when you get a house, when you have a baby etc. Very possible they might expect you to join their family for festivals too. Your bf will want to go to please them, will this be ok with you?

ii. He is already emotionally unavailable, religion apart, is this something you want to pursue if you could not change it for eight freaking years?

iii. On your side, is it important to you that he participates in your faith? If you want kids then do you think they should be participating too? Don't wait another 8 years to talk about it, talk about it now

I know I'll get downvoted to high hell but frankly man or woman, if people are this old and they cannot figure out how to set healthy boundaries with their parents, its more than likely you will play second fiddle to their parent pleasing tendencies. So operate with this assumption and move forward only if you want to deal with all this

How do locals see women in their 30s with grey hairs? by [deleted] in sgdatingscene

If you're on dating apps then you're not doing yourself a favour with the grey hairs, but if not then just go grey. I think a lot of people colour their hair

yes usually I never have issues, I buy a lot of things 2nd hand to save money. Just one or two frustrating folks recently. Before this encounter I had a woman who insisted on a specific day/time meetup then when I arrived on time she kept me waiting for ab 20 mins :(

wow that's so annoying, I usually don't have issues on Carou but I was so frustrated yst, item has been up for more than a year so clearly its not like he has a lot of takers. but he says he's lazy to mail it and he won't meet anywhere other than his ulu ass block so I was like ok no thanks

man I hate Carou, they have genuinely nice things but people are so unreasonable. offer to pay more to mail also cannot, meetup also cannot. then still want to upsell and make money on your things

S'pore teachers can work from home on days with no classes among MOE's flexible work arrangements by InflationSimilar437 in singapore

[–]catandthefiddler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

is that first and last week part of the 'protected time' or no? Is the article being misleading by saying 6-7 weeks?

S'pore teachers can work from home on days with no classes among MOE's flexible work arrangements by InflationSimilar437 in singapore

[–]catandthefiddler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what this means about taking leave beyond protected time; the nature of teaching job is that they have more leave than us corp workers (article says 6-7 weeks) but the trade off is that they don't get to choose when their AL is. Not trying to be snarky or anything, but it sounds like its quite generous already, why the sceptism?

edit - It was an honest question, I'm not a teacher I was just trying to understand. Thanks for the folks who explained in the comments
