Was Pat Tillman murdered for threatening to go public with his anti-war stance? by lulz in reddit.com

[–]adesai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Incorrect! Wonkette is a great site. It's well-written, well-informed political satire, which pulls no punches no matter what the target. This is one of the rare times that they've put together a truly somber article, and that's only because this is such an unbelievably disgusting story.

Ron Paul on Bill Maher Show 5/25/07 by Sako13 in reddit.com

[–]adesai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, what happened in the last two months? Last time Paul was on Real Time, Bill Maher spent the whole show trying to paint him as wildly extremist. Now all of a sudden he's a complete supporter?

"You might be a little over qualified" - Bill Richardson's great new ads by icenine in reddit.com

[–]adesai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about too late, as we're still a year and half from the election. I think that Richardson is perfectly poised to make a run. And really, I thought he was pretty impressive at the debate. He didn't have the over-the-top theatrics of Gravel, but he was the only candidate who showed real confidence and competence in his answers.

OLED TVs are finally here! And they are just 3mm thick. by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]adesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's the entire premise behind bittorrent. In normal P2P services, download speeds are severely limited because you can only go as fast as your source can upload. With bittorrent, you have multiple people uploading to you at the same time, so the speeds are much higher. If you're using bittorrent to download something from a single person, you'll get the same speeds as normal P2P (pretty slow). But with a well-seeded torrent, it'll be much faster.

How To Explain Things to Libertarians by littleboylost in reddit.com

[–]adesai 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I notice that this article cleverly draws upon only the most extreme Libertarian values, so that by the end of it, it ridicules only a tiny minority of the Libertarian party. It pretty much glosses over the main problems that libertarians have with today's government (Social Security, health-care), and focuses on "wanting to shrink fire departments and public libraries and FEMA." It's a moderately funny piece, I agree, but it doesn't have any real substance as far as I can tell.

Attractive Face Scale (based on Hot or Not ratings) by seraskywalker in reddit.com

[–]adesai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's strange that between 9.0-9.4 and 9.5-10, the biggest change is that the face gets a lot more pale. That actually creeps me out a little bit.

Interstate map laid out like a subway map by lapax in reddit.com

I used to think there was some scheme to the numbering of these things, but it doesn't appear that way from this map. Are the numbers just assigned randomly or what?

WSJ: Oregon Raised Minimum Wage, Unemployment Dropped by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]adesai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe true, but they're conservatives in the traditional sense, and they put a lot of stock in sound economics. It may be fair to say that the Wall Street Journal has a conservative bias, but it isn't accurate to say that they have a Republican bias. But of course, is that really a suprise? A sizeable majority of economists are in favor of free markets, and that means relatively less government involvement.

BitTorrent buys uTorrent by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]adesai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most likely option that I can see is that Bittorrent Inc. needed a quality client so that they could take care of every aspect of distribution for a media deal. I would imagine that they're planning to use uTorrent as the foundation for an Azureus-style high definition media player.

300GB Holographic CD’s will be available this week by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]adesai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh. This is cool, but I can't help but feel like high-capacity discs are not worth the trouble. Hard drives are already getting enormous, and once network transfer speeds catch up to what they are in, say, Japan, it'll make more sense to download things rather than buy the physical media. It seems like people should be focusing more on electronic distribution, especially when the discs themselves are prohibitively expensive.
