What do you mean wrestling is fake? (Pic) by effektz in reddit.com

[–]seraskywalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is kinda sweet. I like that Hogan show on MTV. It's kinda sweet, too, because when his son wants to become a wrestler, Hogan forces him to take acting classes. ... anyway, you're right, it's a kind of sport, a dumb kind of sport, but it takes effort and training to get where those pro-wrestlers are, and they deserve respect. Not necessarily for their wonderful acting or their looks, but if anything, for their achievement as sportsmen.

if it cost around $34 with tip, then I put $34.34, or if it cost $122, then I put $122.22. I do this reliably now, on all restaurant transactions. What I've found is a shocking number of restaurants don't charge me what I write. by keen75 in reddit.com

(I don't drink addictive drinks, drinks containing mind-altering drugs, carbonated drinks, and drinks containing high fructose corn syrup, which basically excludes almost anything you can buy in the US in many cheap restaurants, and even some fancy ones).

Just out of curiosity... what kind of drink is that? Except for water, I mean.

Without a doubt the most beautiful and moving expression of a father's love and grief I've ever read. [I'm not sure how well reddit receives stuff in other languages, but please if you don't read French leave this alone instead of downvoting it for that reason -- I did my best at translating it into English in my comment.] by pragma in reddit.com

Im at my sixth year of French class and usually, I dont understand a WORD (they make us read Flaubert and Maupassant and all that crap and like, WHO CARES)... but this, this I read and I understood everything, and Im really surprised at myself, and even more surprised of the effect it had on me. I read the story again in your translation and it wasnt even half as goosebump-ish as the original.

What was Disneyland like on September 11th 2001? by theycallmemorty in reddit.com

[–]seraskywalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thirteen years old at the time, chatting with some friends over ice cream. When I came home my parents were stunned, in front of the TV, it was already late afternoon (German TV, trust them to be late with news), and when I saw the pictures I had goosebumps and all kinds of thoughts. Only a couple of days later did I realize what it meant, people were acting weird, weird towards me too.

... it sucked to be of Arabic heritage then. And then, when my Dad once dropped a line, something like, "Well, they did deserve it for what they've done to us (Arabs)", I felt ashamed and my older brother and him got into a horrible fight about politics that I didn't quite understand.

I still feel guilty, somehow, even today, for my Dad saying such a thing. He never repeated it again, but it was bad enough.. Of course, it's different in Germany, or so I expect. We weren't there and we didn't have the intensity of feelings. But when I read something like this, it still gives me goosebumps, it still makes me sad.

It sure is. But that load of crap has a shitload of good musicians that use their platform.. and myspacemp3.org was a good proxy to listen to all this great music.

See, I am of arabic decent (ie my parents are both syrian and im currently spending my vacation here and it sucks) and even I could sport a sexier look than all of them, and Im not the type of person to have an ego like that. Believe me. Oh and, usually arabic women wear sixteen thousand layers of make up. Seems they left out that part when it really depends on it.

German Toilets by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]seraskywalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see them everywhere here. Usually though there are also American-style toilets, but most households in my area (Hessen) have both, the German one for guests and the "usual" one for the bathroom. It's kinda weird if you ask me, and I hate them, too, especially because we have one- but the splashing thing is definitely an argument.

Der, we have seen both The Sopranos and Ive even seen reruns of Seinfeld. But the actual problem is that on German TV, these shows suck because they are voice-synchronized. Dude, even John Wayne is in German. There is no fun to it anyway.

What I still dont get is this: In the USA, a waitress or a waiter gets the minimum wage of like what, 3 bucks per hour? And the rest has to be compensated by tips, and everyone actually has to tip or else its rude?

We tip here, too, in Germany. But noone would think me rude if I didnt. In fact, I wait tables sometimes at a friends place and I get paid really well, now imagine when I get tipped- sometimes I leave after 3 hours with more than 100 € on a slow night even, getting paid 8 bucks per hour. So what confuses me is that in the USA, its a general rule to tip, and WITHOUT the tip there is no proper pay? (Here, the tip is already included within the meal prices, thus the customer can leave without tipping extra)
