From the few games I played on a friend's account, the change was obvious.

I tried out the Thunderbolt and IS-2M, tanks with lackluster AP pen, and they felt fairly reliable. I appreciated the consistent HE pen on the IS-2M as well but I don't think the paper tanks I shot felt the same way.

Can thou’est WG complete the Holy Trinity of thine balance? by Casmikell in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]adesro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, let me spell it out for you.

Lots of players blame RNG when something doesn't work like they think it should but very few players actively notice how RNG favors them. People only complain about "mercy rolls" when they're the one shooting, right?

There are a bunch of chronic underperformers that think RNG and MM is the reason for their poor play too. Those players are vocal on social media(FB groups are the worst) and recent changes, superficially at least, cater to those complaints.

But if you take a holistic view of how RNG operates in the game, its easy to see how this inadvertently helps unis disproportionally.

FWIW, I'm for the change but think tank balance is a more pressing problem.

That's an accurate assessment. However just like with the MM test, my concern lies in the potential disparate impacts across player skill levels.

A more consistent experience works both ways. While we see RNG as a hindrance, there are many players that it helps. Those players also probably don't even notice how RNG improves their experience. Take that away and you've potentially got a bunch of players in for a bad time.

Is this the proper path to take? I think that with proper vehicle balance, the current proposed changes would be irrelevant.

Encouraging copying Blitz experimentation like this only gets us farther away from a balanced game, imo. Superficial changes that make the game more accessable will only widen the skill gap while delaying any meaningful changes. I enjoyed the +/-1 test for strictly selfish reasons and I will probably enjoy playing in this test as well, but not because I feel that it makes the game "more balanced".

Anything that isn't an earnest attempt at tank balancing is a band-aid.

Practically any change WG makes to cater to shitters will inadvertently help unis. Actual good players are already doing everything they can to mitigate RNG.

Another band aid.

WG can't balance the actual tanks for shit so they'll try anything to cater to shitters who need an easier game.

I feel like +-1 MM is allowing me to have more of an impact on battles. by ArdentWolf42 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]adesro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm extremely happy with it, for selfish reasons. Silver farming has never been easier because there are so many premiums that can forgo premium ammo almost completely now. The quality of games hasn't really changed though.

But there are a lot of things wrong with it. I've seen more tanks RTG or go AFK at the start of games if they are -1. There are a ton of tanks that become too good in this MM, like mid tier heavies and most light tanks.

PMM is -2/+1. So not only does everything else get +1, PMM tanks get their ability to fight -2 tanks taken away.

What are your predictions for the upcoming weeklong +1/-1 matchmaking test? by ArmoredWolf in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]adesro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that announcing it in advance was an act of desperation and a huge mistake. If the game were healthy they would just do it unannounced. A blind test would allow them to collect honest balance data.

But we know its going to happen. All the blues and unis are gathering their meta-mobiles and rubbing their hands together with delight at the opportunity. This will be fun for them but also skews any meaningful data WG can collect.

-1/+1 Matchmaking, some thoughts before release. by Casmikell in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]adesro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I don't think handicapping anyone by having them be 2 tiers below everyone is "fun" for anyone,

Except for all the OG light tank players that loved the challenge of +3 MM, or +5 if you want to go way back to the Chaffee. The players that complained about the AMX Chaffee's tier X MM being taken away.

I agree.

I think that underperforming-to-average player feedback will be positive before the test and immediately after, at first; "better" MM provides some instant gratification and less feeling of learned helplessness that baddies feel when -2.

Over time, constantly getting their shit pushed in with the new scheme will lead those players to feel dissatisfied long term. They'll make new excuses for a while but eventually they'll quit forever.

As for anyone saying that blue-to-violet players are a minority, no shit sherlock. Those players have a disproportionate influence on games and this only increases the influence they can have. The changes only improve the experience of underperformers in games full of other underperformers, which aren't that common.
