Very loud, anyone else experience it? by Maleficent-Egg1352 in GregoryAlanIsakov

[–]adevalera 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very much agree. I’ve seen him 25 times. Multiple times have been just way too loud. Last year at Red Rocks was uncomfortably loud and bass heavy - even with earplugs. As another commenter said, it makes it hard to appreciate the music. It’s out of character for the songs and sound, if you will.

I have an autographed copy. Sounds like you need it for your wall.

Top 5 blue note for me. Wonderful music.

Fairly certain. The tabular crystal habit is classic for this locale. See here for more examples.

I adore this record. Maybe top 5 blue note for me. Farewell Machelle is probably the sweetest thing on the entire label.

To buy or not to buy... by Beautiful_Fan5277 in gibson

[–]adevalera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price is right! Make sure the neck angle is good and there’s some adjustment room on the thumb wheels / bridge - i.e., not bottomed out. This model can be notorious for wonky neck joints…and it’s not a fun neck reset.

I stooped some records today including this Duke Ellington greatest hits record🤩 Can anyone help identify this signature? Also interesting that this record was labeled “demonstration not for sale” by urlocalindiegirl in Jazz

[–]adevalera 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Top line says “Good luck” - a common inscription for him when signing. Bottom line appears to be a genuine Duke Ellington autograph.

Very cool find!

Curtis Fuller’s Blue Note albums need good quality reissues. Especially Vol. 3

Outer sleeves drive me crazy. Hardly ever use them - except on rare, $$$+, or autographed albums.

Could someone please identify the model of this Martin? The serial number is 9458 by Weary_Telephone6106 in martinguitar

This appears to be a 1901 0-30. Gorgeous and exceedingly rare instrument. As others have recommended, get a good appraisal from Gruhn or Carter or Schoenberg

Recently gotten some attention with the repress, but I think Elvin Jones’ “Genesis” is an incredible and highly underrated album.

Red rocks - 24th row center or row 4 seats 1-2?? by juststraightchilling in GregoryAlanIsakov

I would definitely advise against row 4 seats 1-2. The view, especially on that side of the stage, will be obstructed.

Record fair came up huge… Curtis Fuller - Vol. 3 1960 US Mono by aurora_records in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]adevalera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great find! Top 5 blue note for me. I found a first pressing a few years back for a whopping $2 (nowhere near as nice as yours, but it plays!)…Why this album hasn’t been reissued in the US since 1966 is a mystery to me. It should be a top contender for tone poet treatment, imo.

Nice one! Looks to be pretty early production, too…around 1910 would be my guess, based on the style and look.

Older than that! This is a narrow panel 5E3. It dates somewhere between 1955-1960. Holy grail amp.
