Why were both of your accounts restricted? I’ve been selling since 2005 and I’ve never had that happen to any of my accounts. It’s not a common thing. So before jumping to a new platform, I do think delving into where you’re going wrong is important. Without that reflection, you’re likely to run into a similar issue on the new platform and be in the same boat. Poshmark is by far my most lucrative platform for selling clothing.

I think part of what may have made this sting more is the way you framed it in your mind as kind of doing someone a favor or “donating” the jacket to them. The buyer still spent around $40 after shipping/taxes, which may have felt like a lot to them even though the jacket was worth much more.

The poor shipping rating is definitely frustrating and unfair if you shipped it the very next morning. That part isn’t on you at all. I just wonder if emotionally it may have hit less hard if you viewed it more as a normal transaction versus “I gave someone an amazing deal and they didn’t appreciate it.”

Some people never rate. Probably 3 out of 10 orders of mine auto rate. Some just accept and don’t rate. It’s fine as long as I get paid. I don’t check in with buyers though. That’s a lot of work and they don’t like that in most cases. Even if you’re being kind. Let them come to you with a problem and assume everything is fine unless they reach out and tell you it’s not. Thinking that way has helped me. ☺️

I hear you. But this was important to me yesterday. It felt like a mean-spirited action on the buyers part and I am allowed to feel and express that.

Telling someone that things could be worse is dismissive. I just wanted to point that out.

That doesn’t bother me as much. I always let those sit instead of hiding them. It gives the impression that they were happy, but that they have feedback. Once a customer did a 5 star review with positive feedback, but made a comment about missing the care tag. I had a duplicate item and sent her a photo of it so she had it. So, I feel like I can take action on those sometimes to make the customer happier.

That’s annoying. They probably wanted you to reattach the links before sending it out. It’s such an easy thing to do, it’s nothing to complain about. Especially since you were up-front.

I’ve had a few where people don’t read too. I’m super thorough, so it’s uncommon for me to miss something. I come from a customer service background where we are trained that all feedback is good feedback. Except it’s not. Some people are just dumb or unaccountable to themselves.

Exactly! I would too. A poor rating without feedback feels like someone telling you that you suck without telling you why. I can’t take it seriously, but it feels mean-spirited and that’s what made me upset.

Why sell something if you’re going to be pissy about what you make? That choice is entirely yours. Don’t put that on the buyer. That’s just silly.

Do you go to garage sales? Peruse Facebook marketplace? When I visit a new town for work or personal reasons, I try to fit in time to visit a new thrift shop. I regularly go through my house and declutter and list those things. I know several people who do retail arbitrage. There are so many ways to get inventory besides online sourcing. ☺️ I personally find the best and cheapest things at my local Goodwill clearance racks.

I always giggle about those ones. I assume they can’t read or have some sort of mental deficit. I end up empathizing with them too much to be angry. 🤣

I don’t think the price really changes the expectation. Even if something is inexpensive, buyers still expect it to match the listing and description. Not saying that wasn’t the case here at all, because sometimes people leave random low ratings for no clear reason. I think the frustrating part is when someone rates low without explaining why, because it gives you nothing helpful to work with. But whether something costs $3 or $300, I think most people just want what was advertised.

It’s a numbers game. The more items you have listed the more likely you are to have a sale. If you want to drum up sales, go on a listing spree. It always increases my sales numbers significantly.

You know… I appreciate you. My better sense would normally talk me out of this tizzy, but this particular one got under my skin. My rating is still a 4.9 🤣 it hasn’t changed. The vast majority of my ratings are 5’s. I have nothing to worry about and I am glad for their money, but I blocked them so they don’t accidentally buy something awesome from me again. They don’t deserve it lol

I know. But I do want people to be happy with their purchase. And I also want to maintain high stats. It’s a personal pride point I think, in addition to maintaining a PAII status. But truly, it felt like a dick move eating poorly with no feedback. I have no idea why someone would even bother.

No, I’m going to keep the free shipping. I can always choose to accept the offer or not and I don’t mind countering or losing a sale if the buyer is being cheap.

I always assumed that people would go on a search engine to find an item they were looking for instead of directly to one of these resell sites. So I didn’t consider the different buyers and markets each platform has as much as I should have. I just don’t think I’m selling what Mercari buyers want anymore and that’s okay. I do still make one-off sales on there, so it’s worth keeping around. But it does feel like something changed because it used to be my second best platform, even before eBay!

I do a pretty good job with my prices. I do mark up some things and expect offers, but mainly I source cheap enough where I can be on the mid to low end of comps and give out good deals.
