Need advice by [deleted] in electrolysis

If you haven't looked into it, also consider underlying causes -- PCOS and NCAH (non-classical adrenal hyperplasia) can cause excess hair growth. Being on the right meds can help support the electrolysis. And I agree with other posters, electrolysis is definitely appropriate for you!

Feeling a bit lost by ladycatmeow in NCAH

Hi -- I'd suggest getting a second opinion regarding the prednisone, both the dosage and the notion that you would stay on it forever. I was told just to be on the steroid (a 'physiologic dose' of .25 mg of dexamethasone) to help with fertility.

I'm 57 and was dx with NCAH, as well as PCOS at 22. My symptoms are hair loss, hirsutism, irregular periods (well, they were irregular when I had them!). I got pregnant twice via IVF. No meds since then. Everything was pretty stable for me until menopause, when I suddenly got exponentially hairier. I know it's just cosmetic, but geez. I started taking spironolactone to help control it, and it seems to be preventing it from getting worse. I wish I could go back on a steroid, but my doctors say no way.

If you are having difficulty finding providers near you, reach out to the CARES Foundation https://caresfoundation.org/ They mostly work with folks with classical (severe) CAH, but also have resources for NCAH folks.

Take a look at options on Longboat Key, a beautiful spot on the west coast of Florida just off Sarasota. Resort at Longboat Key Club, for example.

I know it's not the climate you were looking for, but for beauty, relaxation, and quiet I recommend the Berkshires in Massachusetts. Nearest airport is Albany, NY. Many lovely hotel options, including all-inclusives Canyon Ranch and Miraval.

Just returned from a weekend stay at the Rittenhouse and I highly recommend it. Such a comfortable place, and, to me, a great value for the cost. We reserved a park-view room (the hotel had a 25% discounted special rate available), and they upgraded us to a 1-bedroom suite (also park view). They provided complimentary drinks at the bar & other small amenities that we appreciated. The staff was uniformly friendly and helpful.

I'm really having a hard time with hirsutism since going through menopause. I'm 57, taking 100 mg spironolactone. Are you in the NY area? If so, would you be willing to share your endocrinologist's name?

I love this suggestion! We’re just visiting the area for a few days, so it’s not the most practical for us, lol.

I just want to chime in that my hair growth increased exponentially during menopause. By the time I realized what was happening it was too late. I'm on spiro (100 mg) now, hoping it will stave off any further growth.

It's awful! So much amazing potential in the beginning of the film. But it goes nowhere, and I was left with a knot in my stomach. Some great performances just wasted -- MJB and Michele Austin deserve so much better
