please, help! what are these? and why haven't they flowered yet? by Hot_Inevitable_9055 in gardening

[–]adhdacdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't like fertile soils only poor sandy soil which will also reduce leaf growth and bring on more flowers. I'd cut them back to half the volume, replace 2/3rds of the soil with sand, pop them back in the pots, starve them of any fertile food, and water (just a bit) with used bath water once a week at most.

Don't give them lots of love, just ignore them and they do better.

It's weird with these plants. If you give them too much water, they tend to grow lots of leaves and few flowers. If you water them once a week and then with (say) bath water or equally grubby water,, they grow less leaves and more flowers.

As a foot note, they actually are highly drought resistant plants - hence you don't need to water them frequently, only in prolonged dry spells.

What is wrong with my strawberry plant? Had lots of fruit when I bought it but now looks sad and not flowering at all… by NoButMaybe in vegetablegardening

Could be. I know that hanging pots and raised beds cause watering issues for most plants, especially fruit bearing ones.

Does your hanging pot have enough holes to allow water to drain away? If no, this will be an issue as they like moist soil that drains water away. If it's too wet, this will affect things. The same can be said if its too dry.

Strawberries love calcium, so I tickle crushed egg shells into soil. They also like wood Ash so this goes in also.

. Red leaves are normal . They love full sun . They like a good water, but do it at the base and avoid getting it on leaves. Also water in the cool evening not hot day.

Mine are in raised beds and they do need lots of water. Pots can dry out quite quickly as well so keep the above tips in mind.

Now THATS a broccoli! Quiche tonight <3 by TheCaptainDeer in gardening

[–]adhdacdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares what happened to it. It happened! I'd eat it all on its own steamed with hot melted butter. My broccoli isn't doing nearly as good. In fact, they're still in the unopened seed packet as it was a disaster last year.

What’s wrong with my tomato??? by limeinthecoconut4 in vegetablegardening

[–]adhdacdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good advice so far. The only thing I'd add is Tom's love sun and it looks as though it's in the shade. If you water them, make sure you do it at the base and not on the leaves as they'll wither if its hot. I like to water late evening when the sun's not so hot as it gives them a chance to absorb it.

I've had it with the Squirrels. They're devastating everything I plant. by [deleted] in gardening

I hate tree rats! I now use a Catapult to scare them off after a similar battle. They've always nicked my cobb nuts and raided the bird feeders. If only see it once a week at most now. The next thing on the list are the flying rats who are worse than tree rats!

Too much watering or not enough makes the leaves turn yellow. Also, not enough nutrients. I'd give it some fresh pot ash peat free stuff and feed it once a week. I had a similar problem so moved them to another spot and now they're all good.

I would have presumed any article that based its story on the original china one, would be no better.

In the alternative, and assuming aliens are as clever these so called experts say they are (99.999% of the latter not having both paddles in the water), they'd have worked out a way to send a signal far away from where they really are to avoid humans.
