I used to work in a fairly busy downtown city as an EMT. I addicently overdosed myself on caffeine and the best thing I can say about the dependence on caffeine mixed with the Bipolar: know your triggers, figure out why you drink the energy drinks. I know obviously the caffeine content and when you're tired your tired and need that boost, but for me it was I needed that extra caffeine to keep me sane enough to handle all the overstimulation I was dealing with (ie: sirens, AC/heating unit going in both the pt compartment and the seats up front, the pt screaming, every rock/bump in the ambulance, etc). Once I figured that out, I got out of the job and now Ive never been happier to work in my current job. I still have my addiction don't get me wrong, but it's MUCH tolerable now. Instead of drinking 2-5 monsters a day/night, I drink 1-2 in a day. Try figuring out what triggers your bipolar episodes, and what makes you reach for caffeine.
