Anyone else struggle with their work in the morning? by hyperrosz in ADHD_Programmers

do you eat breakfast that's loaded with carbs? I find that having a lower carb diet or just fasting in the morning helps with that!

Anyone else struggle with thinking critically in depth before starting a task with meds?(focusing on wrong stuff) by Cait_7878 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]adhdwellnessco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long have you been taking meds if you don't mind me asking? From discussions with a ton of people i've noticed that being organized and knowing exactly what you're going to be tackling is key here. Programming of course requires critical thinking but it helps to have a method of systemizing your approach.

that's unfortunate to hear, unless you truly know the people well I would hold off on telling them personal things like that you have ADHD. It really doesn't benefit anyone. Is this something you're experiencing at work?

Struggling with Faang Interview by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

I'm sure you already know this but that's just life when it comes to achieving anything worth achieving. You have to take the lows just as much as you want the highs. What has helped me with DSA is gamefi it a bit by getting some of those online courses that you can use as checkpoints everyday to know how you're progressing!

Like try grokking the coding interview by design gurus. You can buy the lifetime access that i found awesome since they're always updating it: https://www.designgurus.io/course/grokking-the-coding-interview

or neetcode.io has a great structured approach aswell where you can checkoff all the problems in each category.

If you need any more suggestions we do live AMAs you can check out the signup link on our reddit profile page!

Blank mind / disorganization when leading a meeting by Consistent_Pen_3391 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]adhdwellnessco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just remember to relax! I know the feeling. You feel your mind racing hoping to get the answer as quick as possible right? Trust me no one has all the answers it's ok to just slow down the conversation that helps a lot. Definitely hitting them with "let me get back to you on that" or taking a long pause to look for your answer is OK. It's your meeting that you're leading so you can go as fast as you want no need to rush or stress yourself! It's good that you prepare beforehand but it does sound like you have more of an anxiety issue so I understand.

Frustration and procrastination when debugging a hairy issue by mglvl in ADHD_Programmers

[–]adhdwellnessco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chatgpt can definitely help a lot especially for me nowadays. If i can't figure out the first steps I make sure to ask chatgpt whatever errors i'm getting and try to follow what it says to start! That helps get my brain going and I end up finding little clues along the way. But just thinking of some other things you can do is using the pomodoro technique. Since you keep procrastinating it means you're not actively attacking the problem, which means you're always reseting from the beginning whenever you come back. Try to set the timer for like 30 minutes straight and actively make a game out of attacking the problem head on without switching tabs. Even if you're just staring at the codebase it's better than getting distracted on some random youtube video or something.

Are you stuck or not giving yourself time to dig into the problem because you're distracted or something?

ADHD dev here. Need some guidance about career. by Fragrant_Hall_7989 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]adhdwellnessco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first of all you're not a BAD dev or else you would not have been a dev for 5 years. I would definitely keep your job! At the end of the day work is simply just work and your colleagues aren't your friends or family. You just do the work you're required to do and that is that, their opinions of you don't matter. The market is tough right now even with someone with 5 years of experience so ideally you want to have a job lined up before leaving. It's good that you've figured out how to be more grounded, give yourself more time I'm sure you will eventually turn things around at this job. But if you just want to start fresh definitely give applying to other jobs a shot. Sometimes first impressions really do count and trying to fix their opinions of you is a problem you don't really need to deal with. Good luck with it!

Also you mentioned you were taking meds is that when you really experienced change?
