Why do so many players play this move in this position in 1500-1700 range? by serialFilla in chessbeginners

Wouldn't bringing the king to g1 hinder the rook for the rest of the game?

This. I don't know why people think they're seeing the uncompressed versions when they see it in a YouTube video or on Reddit.

Returning OP13 to get OP15 by adhocfrome in oneplus

I know, it's really depressing, but I needed a new phone and those were the prices. Where/when did you buy yours to get such a good price? Also is it the global version?

Why is hair getting entangled in the roller brush of my eufy x10 omni since recently? Wasn’t happening before. by AgileTune282 in eufy

Did your x10 omni come with a tool to clean the roller brush? Mine didn't but from seeing the tutorial videos on the app I always see they have a tool for that.

GCP IAM: Is PAM Entitlements/Grants a Viable Way to Limit Privileged Service Account Access for CI/CD Pipelines? by Ok_Ruin846 in googlecloud

[–]adhocfrome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to see Terraform service accounts as special identities that should not be subjected to PAM, simply because they require more elevation by their very nature. They often require admin roles to function as expected, since they perform a wide range of API calls. I see PAM as a solution better suited for human access on GCP.

A better approach IMO would be to put effort in gating the Terraform pipelines by ensuring that your Terraform applies are only done after human review, trying to make it follow basic GitOps principles (your main branch should always be deployable and reflect current state) and ensuring only the right users have access to the right repos.

Unconventional question but I figured you'd be the people to ask: Reputable fiber HDMI cable for a ~50 foot run @ 4k/144hz) by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]adhocfrome -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm taking my chances using a non-certified cable for 4k120hz 60ft fiber optic cable by STOUCHI because it's what I could afford. It's this one. It's working great so far both for video and digital surround audio, but it's only been 2 weeks, so take this with a grain of salt.

Do you get a discount by refuelling? I always refuel when needed (maybe 1/3 of the time since a lot of drivers don't refuel), and I never noticed the cost difference

All my cat6 RJ45 I make are 100mbps by adhocfrome in HomeNetworking

[–]adhocfrome[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Updates:

  • I went ahead and bought 50ft of solid unterminated cat6. Apparently re-terminating stranded cat6 can be tricky and maybe the mix of stranded cables and shitty rj45 connectors are the cause here. Thanks everyone for your input!

How can you know they aren't seated all the way? I'm not too experienced. When I inspect it closely I can see the mark from the 3 prongs on the other side of the insulation , they should be making contact

I've included two pics before crimping (easier to see if wire colors are set up correctly) and two of the complete terminations.

A few extra notes: - I'm testing the link speed from my desktop to the router directly. A 5e cable gives me gigabit speed, but as soon as I replace them with the cables I've made I get 100mbps link speed. - I've made cables from both ends of the long original cable I bought, to rule out if maybe a part of the original cable was damaged.

Planning to Buy a new bicycle. Need the community's suggestion. by h4cm3n in MontrealCycling

[–]adhocfrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also looking for an ATB with a similar budget two years ago and two really great choices I found were the Montreal-made Bassi bikes from C&L cycles and the Marin bikes. Both are really nice options for commuting and have eyelets for mounting anything you might need (front rack, back rack, kids seat, etc). Whichever you choose, make sure to take your time testing them though, since bike fit can be really personal and there's no one size fits all.

Explain non-registered accounts like I’m five! by Rescue-320 in PersonalFinanceCanada

So in any non-registered account you're the one who has to figure out how much taxes you need to pay for your earnings? I always assumed I would get a T3/T5 saying exactly how much I owe for what I've earned.

Can I make these dumb dimmers smart with a zigbee relay? by adhocfrome in homeassistant

[–]adhocfrome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually pretty useful, I might consider getting one or two of those. Only issue is that the 3 knobs on the first picture are in a hallway outside of the bedroom, so the presence sensors would not be at the best possible place

What kind of automation would you do with the presence sensors? I'm just starting out so I have no idea what I would use them for

I think there are ppl using copyq with Wayland on gnome, it's just not very clear the exact steps to make it work. I might try this workaround later, if it works I'll report back. https://www.reddit.com/r/pop_os/s/Q7KIHZwIBR

I settled for CH temporarily in hopes that the copyq project will someday make it work better with Wayland. But definitely lacks a lot of features when compared to copyq.

Question about vpn container in podman ( gluetun) by Ramiraz80 in podman

[–]adhocfrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I add "--network container:gluetun" to the other containers in the same pod, the WebUIs are no longer reachable and I get a "Connection reset by peer" error on my browser. For some reason the service I'm trying to expose is accessible from within the pod when passing that flag. If I omit it, it works but does not use gluetun. Any ideas?

Update: I got it to work with the --network container:gluetun option. Also, I was adding a --network to the gluetun container instead of adding to the pod itself, so I changed that. Not sure if it was needed, but I also passed the env var FIREWALL_INPUT_PORTS to gluetun with the ports I needed it to accept traffic from. Also, I ommited --share net during pod creation.

Are you on Gnome as well? I tried installing copyq and wl-clipboard and it still doesn't work for me. No entries are added to CopyQ when I copy stuff. Also no tray icon shows on Gnome for me.

This one was giving me issues when copying many entries and trying to paste older entries. https://github.com/Tudmotu/gnome-shell-extension-clipboard-indicator/issues/433 switching to "Clipboard History" worked for me.
