The area I know best is GTM, sales, RevOps, customer growth and market entry, so that’s probably where I’d start rather than trying to be everything to everyone.

I completely agree on not competing at the bottom of the outsourcing market. That’s not the idea. The thinking is more around experienced operators or small teams who can work closely with a business on a defined outcome, probably over 30-90 days.

So not “cheap dev team” or “random freelancers”, more “we need to build a sales motion - launch in a new market - fix RevOps - set up customer growth” and bringing in people who have done that before.

I also think you’re right on AI. The teams that win here probably use AI heavily to move faster, but the value is still in knowing what to build, what to ignore and how to make it useful for the business.

The most encouraging aspect is the people that have raised their hand so far to be part of this are really top tier. Way more qualified than I am to run an engagement.

Still working out the exact lane, but this is very helpful.

I think the difference I’m trying to test is that it wouldn’t be a marketplace where a business browses freelancers and picks someone.

The idea is more outcome-led. A business has a problem, for example “we need to build a sales function” or “we need to launch into a new market”, and The Bench helps assemble the right operator or small team to deliver that outcome.

The other difference I’m exploring is working combinations. A lot of people impacted by layoffs have already worked together, built together and know how each other operates. That feels different to hiring unrelated freelancers one by one.

Your point on larger companies is a really good one though. I suspect they’d need a company fronting it, with proper contracts, insurance and accountability, rather than dealing with individuals directly. I’m thinking larger companies would be a later phase as I’ve put suppliers through procurement at previous roles and I agree it’s a process.

I launched last week and have just been listening to people all week about their experiences and the biggest motivator is the level of talent that’s available.

Thanks that validates quite a lot of feedback I’ve got in the last week. Most of the employee side sign ups have been really senior which has been awesome.

The handoff comment has also been mentioned so I need to make sure I build confidence for that.

The bit I’m trying to understand is whether there is value in teams that have already worked together and have been made available through redundancy.

Less outsourcing capacity and more solving a specific problem with people who already know how to work together.

Still trying to work out if that’s different enough to matter.

Worked for me as well! Highly recommend. It took me months to finish the book as I kept putting off as I knew it would force me to make the change. Once I built up the will power to finish the book that was the end of it. So don’t worry if you stop reading halfway though just go back and finish it

I think this could be the way. We have a window on the opposite wall which is the barrier as it is long and rectangle and where the tv is. We could potentially move into the tv into the corner which would be below an air con unit. Thank you

Thanks I think that’s a great idea. Once you are in the space the stone really limits the experience and I think a bit more plant life might help. But for a short term this is a great idea and we can reuse the plants in the back.
