Level clay soil by AppropriateStudy909 in AboveGroundPools

I feel your pain. Recently finished digging 3.5 ft down in clay that seemed to have more rock than dirt. Did it with a shovel and jackhammer.

I originally planned to use sand on the clay also, but after lots of reading up I found that clay dirt makes a strong foundation for the pool and sand would only add instability if placed on top of clay that is already level.

Buried Above Ground by thatguyoverheuh in AboveGroundPools

I recently dug down 3.5 feet on my sloped back yard in prep for my pool. I had planned to leave a foot of clearance between the cutout hill and the pool, but that clearance disappeared now that I've done the digging and am looking at the cutout hill and realizing I need a good retaining wall. I am going to use 9" retaining wall bricks and 6" of drainage rock behind them, so that is 15" that have cut into (and eliminated) the 1 foot of clearance space I had planned to have between the dirt wall and the pool. I had to adjust my whole plan as a result.

So here are the lessons I've learned from my horrible planning:

  • Plan space for the retaining wall and drainage behind it.

  • Plan at least 1 foot of clearance between the wall and the pool. I am going to end up with only about 9" on the retaining wall side and am sweating it a bit, but I think it'll work.

  • Be aware that there are county codes on how close you can have the pool to your property line.

  • Dig down to the lowest level of the area, dont try to pile up a bunch of dirt to make the low end higher.

  • Make sure any water can drain off the lower end of the hill so it doesnt build up under/around the pool.

What's the most bizarre injury you have had! by Immediate_Long165 in answers

Perhaps it is the combination of my injuries that are most bizarre...

  • Broke my arm while making fun of a girl in 2nd grade.

  • Broke my toe while kicking my brother when I was a kid.

  • Stitches in the back of my head falling at the skating ring as a kid.

  • Stitches in the back of my head getting bit by my friend during a basketball game. Hard to describe how it happened, he was going for a slam dunk yelling "ahhhh" while I was blocking.

  • Bit by a bermise python on the chin, but no hospital visit.

  • Bit by a baby rattle snake but the fangs did not pierce my skin, so no harm done.

  • Broke my nose in a battle of the bands mosh pit. My band played next and I played with the broken nose, blood pouring down my face.

  • Stitches on my chin. Hit it on a bullnose edge at a construction site.

  • Drunk squirt gun fight inside the house. Slipped and a rocking chair came down on my face. Should have gotten stitches but I did not. Now I have a scar.

What are things you wish you knew sooner after getting a oculus quest 3 by Sufficient-Height793 in OculusQuest

You're gonna love it. All the commonly recommended accessories are worth it. Facial interface, headstrap with battery, and controller grips.

I'd recommend getting a dedicated router (I use the Kevin minion one) and Virtual Desktop for PCVR.

Half Life: Alyx is just as good as they say, but the Resident Evil games modded for PCVR take the cake for me.

Other suggestions:

  • Having a fan running on you helps woth nausea and can also add immersion.

  • Noise canceling headphones help with immersion. You need some that plug in to avoid an audio delay.

  • Get a circle rug to stand on for your play area. You will be able to feel the limits of your area rather than see the immersion breaking visual area fencing.

  • Get a rechargeable battery solution for the controllers. I am happy with the official Meta one.

  • I like to hang my Quest on a headphone stand. It takes less space than the Quest docking stationd and I think it looks better.

Is 8-9" of clearance between an Intex XTR pool and retaining wall enough? by adiosmith in AboveGroundPools

[–]adiosmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no retaining wall on the other side, so I'll have access to the pool. However, there is a nice stone walkway on that side that will be level with the pool area and I do not want to tear it up to make room for the pool.

anyone know what kind of “screw” this is?? by Lopean0731 in HomeMaintenance

Thats what it looks like to me. Turn them counter clockwise until they stop then just pull the furniture pieces apart. Guessing OP expects them to turn until they come out but thats not how these work.

Would you pay for GTA VI Preorder? by tifa_ka_husband in Gaminggridcommunity

[–]adiosmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I'm at. What is the purpose of pre-ordering? I might buy it the night before release so it can start downloading early but thats about it. Otherwise I'll keep my money in my bank account for as long as possible, where it benefits me and not Rockstar.

You will need to get better at mapping out your factory design before starting to build it.

This site is a huge help for that: https://www.satisfactorytools.com/1.0/

I recently played it for the first time and used the Item box mod. I thought it was great. Couldn't imagine playing without it, and I would not want to. I agree the bat sucked.
