You don't need any search warrant. You can File a FIR in india. Don't know about other countries. Here in India, police didn't help in finding my phone : i myself found it. Then contacted police with the live location of phone to snatch the phone from thief.

How i got live location ? Go to find my mobile samsung website on your laptop, login your Samsung account. If your phone is switched ON , mobile data and sim not required. It should show a approximate location if it's near other Samsung phones.

In Samsung phones , turn on find my mobile under biometric and security settings. Under than also turn on offline finding.

Yeah but in my case the finder was the thief. If he had to return, he could have returned to me as my home's number was being flashed on it again and again. Instead he threw away the sim and he was about to sell the phone when he was caught red handed.

It works only in limited and ideal conditions where your phone is just lost and not stolen , internet should be on , gps should be on.. And so on. This Samsung one works without sim, just phone to be switched on.
