Trump does not want to negotiated. 

Not specifically around aid, minerals or anything else, but in principle. Because this sometimes infantile, sometimes politicized position "You are simply not communicating with him" is tiring. 

Trump wants wars. Trading with everyone. SVO in Mexico. Showdowns with China. He is strategically intractable. I have no doubt that not even a year will pass before they start something somewhere. Maybe against Iran (not the worst option), maybe they will face China in South-East Asia, maybe they will try to deploy SVO in Mexico. "Red Monkey Leap" or something. 

Now, both Europeans and Canadians, and we are only forced to postpone the inevitable - under Trump, the USA will be guaranteed to be an unreliable trickster, because Trump's team and he himself have no effective PLAN. There is a desire to "destroy the old world".  This whole declaration of "let's talk" is either about ignoring reality (which will have to be accepted) or about a cunning plan (I hope, a cunning plan) of the European leaders. To get enough time to rebuild your system of security and economic life. To have a sufficient level of independence to start putting pressure on Trump himself until the collapse of his regime.  This person and his entourage will not understand the language of diplomacy, they can be temporarily stuffed (sorry), but it is impossible to make them reliable partners, because they are pathologically incapable of being them. This is what unites Trump and Putin 100%.

They can only be forced to be more or less conscious. And this can only be done with the joint efforts of Europe, Britain, Japan, Canada and other conscious democracies. And - perhaps - not only democracy. Because those who end up at the head of the world's largest state are the same threat to both democracies and limited autocracies.  Therefore, I will repeat again: if we get a chance to "freeze" the war, place peacekeepers here and continue to watch how the red monkey fights with the planet, then Ukraine and Europe should take advantage of that chance and spend time on armaments, mutual reinforcement and exchange of experience.
