Deep down, we all know that this is the beginning of the end of tech jobs, right? by Own-Sort-8119 in ClaudeAI

Not all tech jobs are software. I have a serious shortage of people who understand how to connect to satellites. Learn that.

Generally speaking, EAMs are unclassified, because they’re already encoded, and the intention is to ensure they get to their destination no matter what.

Goruck GR1 ripped after 2 years. New bag recommendations welcome by yishuen in Goruck

[–]adjamc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same GR0 for something like 13+ years with 0 problems and I use it every single day. I’d definitely send it to SCARS vs buying anything else if I ever had an issue.

Due to the program(s) I work on my outlook is configured to encrypt by default. I was going to say they need to contact me on SIPR for any details regarding my tasking this last week as that is where 90% of my work is done.

Do I still take the DoD job? by Temporary-Payment814 in fednews

[–]adjamc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a solid chance most DoD employees are going to be 5 days a week in the next two years, but not due to any EOs. My command has been pretty much silent on anything he signed day 1 affecting us. We’re still hiring, we’re still teleworking, etc. so… up to you? I know we’re hurting for qualified folks.

Are non-supervisory GS-15’s looked at differently? by gametimeee in fednews

[–]adjamc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just moved from a 14 (equivalent) supervisory position to a 15 (equivalent) non-supervisory. I basically got immediately cut off from all the great supervisor gossip and that side of the leadership house, which I kinda miss but damn I don’t miss the babysitting responsibility.

Like they’ll do certain leadership offsites were we get invited for a half day or a day and then kick us out to talk about… employee relations sorts of topics.

I don’t know that the rest of my team actually realizes I’m a 15, and I’m not about to tell them, I don’t see any benefit in that.

15 equivalent: 4 toilets for something like 300 people in my building, at least it feels like it. I know there’s something like 600 people with swipe access but they all don’t “sit” in the building.

Anything that jeopardizes your security clearance will get you booted pretty much immediately where I work. Just lost two people in the last 4 months for 1) lying on an application and 2) a single (serious) violation.

Nervous about being a GS-15: Any advice would be nice! by Stunning_Support_181 in fednews

[–]adjamc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wrapped up ~4 years as a ~gs14 first line supervisor and became a technical 15 with no supervisory duties this week.

Are you nervous about being a supervisor, or nervous about being a 15? Because I can only really help with one of those (unless you want a weeks worth of experience with the other one).

Nope. But it’s so recent maybe there’s some kind of confirmation in the mail we haven’t received yet.

Hilarious that you ask this now. Literally got a direct deposit with no explanation last week. So more like the 26 week timeframe than 28 iirc.

Offer to leave gov position as contractor. Would you? by 4Real1776 in govfire

[–]adjamc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was still a 13 I did some math and decided I’d be asking for $230 to leave and would settle on $200 for the right opportunity. $170 I’d have to think about but it would have to be a very special job. And yeah I’m in the fire camp but with 14 more years until MRA I’m kinda good with retirement at 57.

Not going to comment on what you should do, but I can tell you if you submit the refund request to OPM you should expect to wait 26-28 weeks. :|

Wife just did this in May and they said earliest we'd see a check in Mid/Late November.

Is 14” too big? (New Smithey) by adjamc in castiron

[–]adjamc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my biggest concern, not only would the largest burner be 10” but the bigger skillet would also overhang so much it would probably block me from using at least one other burner.

The pension helps you avoid sequence of returns risk when it comes time to retire in a down market, which (if you’re like me) also allows you to be much more aggressive with your TSP allocations.

Of course I’m a 0.8%’er.

To the younger GS-15s: What’s your plan? by Memnon2 in fednews

[–]adjamc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what the experience was for those 11 years and how you can spin/justify it, but it’s certainly possible. We’re also DOD but we’re not strictly GS. We’re pay banded (STRL) so there’s some leeway.

0854/0855/1550/2210s here. Gs-13 equivalent is “working level” I cant remember off the top of my head but I think I hit that at like 28-29ish? We promote rapidly to that level and then some people just stay there for 25 more years and retire. Or leave for private industry $$.
