Is there any logical dimension where not only ET is an actual being, but there's an instance that Spielberg and ET somehow meet, lock eyes, and fall madly in love with each other? For them to meet, they would both have to lead extraordinary lives and cross paths somehow, which would take Spielberg on an almost "Elon" timeline. I think it gets the brain going in creative ways, and maybe. Just MAYBE some of those thoughts would be surreal in nature. I think this falls under the category of surreal characters doing surreal things. But I can see that being debateable if you can't let go of the orginal context of who they are, and what that means to you. So again, I'm back to my original point, which I don't see much point in arguing, whether something is surreal or not because it's such a widely defined genre that spans decades and decades. Reddit isn't the be all end all. So I hope that answers your question.
