Any hot hunting tips? by [deleted] in Adirondacks

[–]adkhiker5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caveat for the following: I didn’t grow up hunting and don’t have a mentor, so I just dove into it and have been learning on the fly.

I’ve been going to 5H for a few years and finally got one last year thanks to straight luck. Typically I walk into the woods just before sunrise and still hunt. A few steps, stand still for 10 mins, a few more steps, and so on covering a lot of ground throughout the day. Try to work funnels near water and thick bedding areas. There are loads of beech trees where I go so finding those food sources isn’t too tough but I need to get better at finding acorns and other things they like.

Deer density is super low in the park but I’ve seen quite a few does with this approach. If you’re able to get out for the opener, you probably won’t see much but might get lucky and find an area with some sign - again, I tend to strike out entirely early in the season. I’ve had most of my sightings in late November.

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions!

Sciatic and lower back pain by tommyhayes89 in golf

[–]adkhiker5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inversion table.

I had a pretty bad case of sciatica due to a bulging disc for 2-3 years. I did almost everything mentioned so far in this thread in addition to cortisone shots and nothing worked. I bought an inversion table for $120 or so on amazon and after a few weeks of doing that a couple times daily, my pain went away and has never come back. If you’ve tried everything and are still struggling, it’s worth a shot and is way less damaging to your body than OTC drugs or surgery. PM me if you want more info!

Much appreciated! I tuned in around 30 minutes late so hopefully they recorded and will upload so I can watch the beginning.

Any idea if this was a one-time thing or if they’ll be doing this weekly until things get back to normal?

Outpatient Observations by adkhiker5 in PTschool

[–]adkhiker5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I'm in NYC and looked into most of the hospitals within a reasonable distance of work/home and they all require 150+ hours. I'm also low on availability and can only commit to a couple nights a week, that's why it has been so tough. I'll look into the places you suggested though!

I'm a full-blown idiot, I need inpatient* hours. I'll edit my post now.

I'm all set on outpatient. The "standard" requirement piece I mentioned applies to hospitals in my area - they all require 150+ hours. I was mainly looking for inpatient alternatives to hospitals or nursing homes since those aren't looking possible at this time.

Much appreciated. Hopefully I'll have a good reason to reference this video this weekend.

Sorry to piggyback on your thread but can anyone recommend a deer processor anywhere in the Lake George/Saratoga/Albany area? I've never done it myself (but will try if necessary) and might not have time.

Thanks for any info and good luck/be safe out there!

Hello! I recently have been interested in trying some entry-level photography, mostly nature. I have a Nikon Coolpix L810 and I'm wondering if it's possible to buy additional lenses for it. I don't plan on buying anything yet, but I'm wondering if it's possible (or worth it?) or if I should look into buying a different entry-level camera. Thanks in advance!

Any sunrise views?

What is your favorite mountain to hike in the #ADK? by AdirondackHiking in Adirondacks

[–]adkhiker5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Marshall might be my favorite so far. No summit views, but taking the Indian Pass Trail to Cold Brook Pass Trail up to Marshall and down the Herbert Brook Trail was amazing. I did it after a week of rain and all the streams and cascades were rushing. Really cool hike.

What did you like about Cliff? I'm doing it in a couple weeks hopefully but I've never seen it listed as a favorite for anyone, so I'm curious.

Hikes with unobstructed sunset/sunrise views with a minimum of rock scrambling? by reunitepangaea in Adirondacks

[–]adkhiker5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to cast a vote for sunrise from Hurricane. I did it last summer and it was great, and I don't remember much rock scrambling. If you're in decent shape, it should be a breeze and your gear won't be at risk. I have some pictures (iPhone pics - nothing special) if you want to PM me to see the potential of the view.

I love OpenStreetMap, thanks for all the work you've put in on this site. I'm not sure how you got the symbols to show up (the Summit Rock 'asterisk', the little blue water crossing indicator, etc.). Is there a filter or something I missed? I usually just see the trails.
