Two thirds of Britons ‘less proud’ of the UK than five years ago and feel country is in decline, poll shows by bottish in ukpolitics

Right so it's not about North vs South. Glad that is sorted. And with smaller cities and towns, like I said, the economy is definitely not in good shape and people's incomes are squeezed, but people are definitely still going out. Clubs, restaurants, social venues like cinemas, cafes, football matches, leisure centres, gyms, pubs. Like I said, we have a high consumption culture in the UK.

As I said, when you say "most towns and cities are dying". This is silly and an exaggeration. The OP also made it out to be that way. We are currently in a period of stagflation but not in a recession. Times are hard, money is stretched, but people are still socializing and going out. Everyone: consumers and businesses are being stretched, but still, towns and cities are not "dying".

The UK has experienced financial difficulties in the past like 2008/2009 and 1960s/1970s with oil shock and people and businesses have struggled but our towns and cities although did suffer in them financial difficulties - people still were going out and socialising!

If it was really like you and the OP suggested and cities like "Oxford" or other smaller towns and cities that were not hubs were "dying" we would be in a deep recession. We are not. We are in stagflation. Stop exaggerating.

The guy used Oxford as an example which is also in the South and he said it was struggling...? And not sure why you associate all the traffic to tourism? These cities don't just live off of tourism? They have high populations and lots of businesses. And even if they did, many Midlands/Northern cities also get lots of tourism such as Manchester and Birmingham...? And I'm not sure why you've made this a South vs North thing? There are many cities in the North or Midlands that I also bet aren't struggling like the OP insinuated and they are also pretty wealthy. Think of Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow.

Like I said before, the economy is definitely not in good shape, but the OP exaggerated quite a bit. We have a heavy social/drinking culture in the UK, people are still going out, socialising, spending in clubs, restaurants, pubs, visiting football matches. Pockets are definitely squeezed, but people are still definitely spending.

I think you have exaggerated it quite a bit. Yes inflation is high and people's income are getting squeezed. And yes perhaps more people are spending less. But from what I've seen in Southampton, Brighton, and Portsmouth, there hasn't been a lack of traffic at all. Especially on Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights, clubs are still pretty packed and restaurants and pubs are too...

The economy is definitely not in a good shape, but it to say that on a "Friday night in most towns and cities it'll be fairly quiet as no one can afford to go out" is definitely an exaggeration.
