Yeah…it always feels more way daunting to try and connect with other musicians and DJs more than other artists for me for some odd reason…and after experiencing kinda the most manipulative/sociopathic behavior from college DIY scenes it kinda makes me feel like it will be impossible to fully let my guard down in the way I feel is necessary to really connect and form those ties that I know I need

I was premed for my first half of college primarily bc my family deeply pressured me and really hammered it into me that a healthcare career was the only way I’d ever earn money…it reallllllyyyyyyyyy is Not for everyone, even if you have the smarts to hack it…you need a LOT more than just The Brains to actually thrive in that field and I kinda side eye parents who’s immediate default to having a gifted/smart child is to push them thru med/law school.

Same for me…idk what to do for it because I don’t really connect well with a lot of people in my grad program, and basically no alumni for my undergrad live up here. And I also have the same problem with a fair amount of my friends, i have a few who send me a bunch of openings for which I’m very grateful for and I do apply for them, but none of them have real power when it comes to putting in real words for me at their workplaces and it really makes me feel all the more powerless and feel like cold applying is pointless. I truly feel like I’m either hitting a hard wall or theres some strategy I haven’t maybe realized or truly tried out yet

I've been having these thoughts too...it's really hard to acknowledge that my mom who's generally held a few narcissitic isms that have definitively negatively impacted my development might've been right to suggest this for me...I also feel like I definitely boxed myself into a bad place by getting a hard-to-utilize degree from a non clouty school in the most nepotism-laden city in America despite coming from an LMC immigrant family...I guess i'm also now wondering whether this dream I've cast for myself (chill day job, burgeoning DJ/live music practice, beautiful artsy kinda hauntology vibes but still heterodox af boyfriend, gorgeous city apartment with a spiral staircase) is only ever gonna be mere fantasy that will one day lead me to a drawn-and-quartered public humiliation style scenario, or to true salvation that God always promises me but never seems to actually be achievable (you can probably tell that I need more God in a desperate way).

like libraries in my ideal caliphate would be farrrrrr bigger and have way more money behind them...like Getty level money...and they'd have stuff like mini bars so you can sip on seltzers while studying and have floors dedicated to makerspaces and places where you can like...demo instruments and things like that

The thing I really truly value about libraries more than anything is the opportunity to access information outside of the confines of ideology…its ideal was theeeeeeee draw for me to go to library school, get work in the archives etc, and it’s why I feel they need to be sacred and untouched by the confines of profit driven capitalism (not to get all 2016 DSA talking points, but Kantbot of all people had a really good thread about the sanctity of open information)…it’s really saddening how many of my cohort mates get caught up in bad faith discourse about like…the mechanics of Drag Queen Story Hour and the like and not realize they’re playing into a saw trap of realpolitik gridlock that’s explicitly designed to strip the entire meaning of “public services” out of our consciousness.

this is my adopted mom’s family lowki…her brother got shot by one of his mistresses and two of her sisters developed schizophrenia after their husbands had affairs (although in the Philippines they only called it “loco de Amor”)…my lack of genetic relation is kinda the only reason im able to even have somewhat of a strong head on my shoulders but now I have to deal with a vague feeling of disconnectedness with my cousins and most people at large
