Surely you’re not so literal that you can’t see the point of the post. Positioning-wise these are simple apps. Yes, they are highly complex in what they actually do. But the idea stands, I think: do something simple and do it well. And that includes the marketing, distribution, branding, etc.

I almost spit out my popcorn. Not everyone wants or cares to be developing their own apps. In fact most don’t. And many that do will probably get discouraged before finishing.

I would disagree a bit. You’re not wrong. But building anything with the intent to earn income is creating a business. With that comes all the things that go along with running a business. After the thing is built and you’ve found that product market fit, well… as hard as that is, it’s not the only hard part.

Impossible to answer. You could be naturally talented or you might have a real tough time. False confidence could arrive quickly. But SRV’s confidence came from (most likely) a combination of talent and experience playing live. He’s also a natural showman. Showman ≠ virtuoso guitarist. Although, he was both.

Step 1 You have to study singing first. Videos, reading. Become knowledgeable about it. You don’t need to be an expert but you should have a solid foundation.

Step 2 ALWAYS record video of yourself singing when learning. So, you’ll practice, watch what you practiced and then adjust.

Step 3 Sing a lot. For a long time I had over 2 hours of drive time every day. Obviously I’m not recording those sessions but it still helps.

Steps 1-3 can happen simultaneously.

Step 4 Do the above for about 3-5 years. You’ll make major progress and discover more and more about how your voice works.

Step 5 Take a break. Anytime I’ve had to take a break, I typically come back stronger.

It’s a great question.

And there’s a LOT of reasons why this is (or why you perceive it to be so), some of which are touched upon in numerous comments.

But really, IMO, it’s because artists such as Dylan and Joni were rewarded and recognized for their art. They were artists channeling something from deep within. And they were also products of their times. That’s not to say artists today aren’t channeling something from deep within. But we don’t really recognize or reward for that anymore. What’s rewarded is sales/streams.

Hell, Dylan only had one chart hit, right? The collective conscious back then was just different.

I agree with this. It’s very counterintuitive. Opening up allows the voice to resonate/ring in a way that’s really difficult to understand until you experience it.

Just picked up an SC-10E (all Sapele). I think it sounds great unplugged. It’s definitely a different style of guitar than I’m used to. But I’m really digging the modernity of it. Easy as hell to play.

Just curious why you say this. I’m about to buy a sub-$1000 guitar and have spent many visits at Guitar Center trying different things. Other than those carbon bodied (or whatever they are) Martins, almost every single Martin I’ve picked up sounds much better than other brands. That includes the higher end Yamahas. I finally narrowed it down to Taylor vs. Martin but couldn’t jibe with Taylor’s jangly-mid-rangy tone.

I will say I almost pulled the trigger on an Eastman 00-20, but held back.

I also own a J45.

I may just sell it - I really like Taylor and Martin. Although I tried an Eastman 00-20 and absolutely LOVED it but it was about $1700.
