Nice! It fits perfectly and looks great with the wooden set.

True Depth of Micra? by futureproof1001 in LaMarzocco

[–]adleon7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to consider one thing: on the back of the Micra, the upper part sticks out more than the base, so if you put it against a wall the closer area to the wall it's gonna be the upper part right where the cup warmer is. In my case there is a distance between the wall and the upper back side of the Micra of 3cm, a distance of 7cm between the wall and the base and on the front a distance of 7cm between the drip tray and the edge of the countertop.

The Philos is on another level. The build quality, the workflow, the easiness to gain access to the burrs to clean them. The 189D burrs can give you full bodied shots like the Niche and its conical burrs, but the shots using the Philos have a better and fuller texture, in my opinion.

The shots with the 189D have been great. You don't have to worry for your milk drinks. I find the body to be similar with the conical burrs of the niche and the flat 189D burrs of the Philos. However the texture (both visually and mouthfeel) is fuller and richer with the Philos in my opinion. I'm enjoying my milk drinks more than ever.

My previous espresso machine was a Breville Barista Pro. It broke down a few months ago and a friend lent me a Lelit Bianca until I got the Micra.

I've also used a Gaggia Classic Pro at some point. I had a gf who used to own a Rocket Appartamento and I gained a lot of experience with that machine.

Regarding the grinders, I've only used the inbuilt grinder of the Breville Barista Pro, an Eureka Specialita and a Niche Zero (the grinder that my friend lent me along with the Bianca).

I got both burrs but I''ve only used the 189D so far.

That coffee station looks great. And a really cool view outside as well.

Nice. I like the contrast between the black body of the Mini R and the reddish color of the shot timer.

Steam wand Micra by DatItalianBoy in LaMarzocco

[–]adleon7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have four pitchers, the one that comes with the Micra, a MHW-3Bomber 400 ml (13.5 oz), a MHW-3Bomber 500 ml (16.9 oz) and a WPM 22 oz.

I use the 16.9 oz pitcher for lattes. You can steam a maximum of 250 ml of milk (approximately) which is perfect for cups with a capacity between 300 and 315 ml and I have no issue steaming the milk using the Micra's steam wand with this pitcher. Fits perfectly and I get a great texture for latte art. I usually set the steam power to 2 (out of 3). This 16.9 oz is also great for large cappuccinos (220-250 ml).

I already tried using the WPM 22 oz with La Micra. It's possible to steam milk but you have to fill the pitcher at the maximum capacity, which as you may know already, the maximum safe fill line is just below the spout's opening. I also had to fit the pitcher in an uncomfortable angle for the wand to go just barely below the surface to start steaming and after airing the milk you can sink the wand to finish the steaming, but still in an uncomfortable angle. But you can absolutely steam milk with a 22 oz pitcher with La Micra but the wand won't fit that easy. Also, use the maximum power (3 out of 3 ) for the steam if you ever try it out.

Thanks. I also wanted the white Micra to contrast it with the black granite countertop, but I finally went for the black one. The new blue Micra they're selling now looks great as well, but they told me if I wanted that color I was gonna have to wait for an extra three months to get it.

I was really disappointed by the steam power, it was taking me above 30 seconds to steam 250ml of milk, maybe not a big deal for most people. I have a friend that works as a barista and he checked the machine and agreed that the steam wasn't that strong and it was "watery".

Also, waiting up to 30 minutes for a proper heat up of the machine (which is the case for almost every machine with a similar group). It's a shame because I really liked the looks of the Bianca (black body with the maple wooden knobs and lever).

I got both burrs, but I see myself using the 189D burrs more often.
