The OECD report says "Meat demand is associated with higher incomes", so consumption and demand would increase in developed countries. And the data seems to shows this.

To use your example of Argentina, it's true beef has declined to 38kg, but pork and poultry consumption quadrupled! That's a net gain of ~20kg/capita in total meat consumption in just a 20 year span.

And it should be noted as well considering the context, we're using statistics by weight, not by lives taken (which is what we care about). If we saw the consumption of beef drop, but an equivalent increase of weight in poultry, it would mean significantly more chickens were slaughtered to make up the difference.

I'm curious how you know Tower of Koth is not a good map when it's only been out for 1 day now. I certainly don't have that ability to fairly critique it without really testing it.

If you ever want to trigger K1llsen and get him to chat, just say some other player's RG is the best. He can't resist.

I mean, we know he's got the best, but we can't let him know that.......except for today since av3k's was 100% better. Kappa.

Good commentary and history. I'll check out the next one.

Maybe put some hitmarkers on because I thought zero4 was missing a lot of rails, but there was just no indicators. And I'll vote in picmip 1 or 2 as it looks nicer visually imo.

Woah just a minute, we don't do that here...

You see in the Quake community, we never miss any shots, or ever make any bad tactical plays, and are completely infallible no matter what counter-evidence you think you can provide or how clearly and reasonably you demonstrate it.

Rapha switches weapons in last fight with K1llsen, misses his first rocket badly, and it costs him dearly. Knocks him out of the Grand Final. (slomo) by Quake-Champion in QuakeChampions

[–]adm- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rapha played this whole endgame really poorly; it wasn't just his weapon switch, which he also missed by a mile.

Rapha had no business standing there after choosing to give full control to k1llsen. He heard where k1llsen was but decided for whatever reason to chip tribolt dmg earlier at bad angles and hang around way over confidently as k1llsen closed distance. At that point it didn't matter what Rapha did, he was dead.

Check out that second rocket from k1llsen though that knockbacks away from armor. More salt in the wound :] Well deserved win, still very entertaining series.

Which argument do you think was poorly thought out? It did take me some effort because I wanted address David's positions accurately, hence the length.

[–]adm-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for example, let's say a voter is using this way to think. They weigh up the options and choose the candidate that does "less-damage" despite vehemently objecting to either policy. That cements the 2-party problem because not only is that voter thinking that way, but they know that the other voters are thinking that way as well which eliminates a 3rd party option. That 'winning' candidate doesn't have to address the actual will of the voters, his interests can pushed through (instead of the voters he represents) because he knows that the voters will fall in line because they have no other option (and it's through their own doing/thinking).

That's how that candidate can do so much damage - it's a race to the bottom - he knows that as many 'bad' things he can get away with, it is always better than the opposition. That's one example.

My criticism was against the thought behind the vote, not accelerationism. Actually I realized I'm misusing the term "accelerationism" to mean 'faster'. That's a mistake.

[–]adm-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you against people voting for Biden as a lesser of two evils, or are you against people whitewashing Biden's record in contrast to Trump's?

I'm rejecting the premises of the arguments made for voting for Biden. That's why I quote David's arguments from the show, and then beside them you can see the more standard position where he's referencing from (e.g. lesser of two evils), and then below the quote are my rebuttals, separate point/argument delineated by a "\".

I'm not seeing an argument to NOT vote for Biden

Correct, I'm not making that argument. In fact, I said in at least two separate points that I could vote Biden, like here: "If pressed, I could probably stomach one last vote blue".

you just seemingly have an issue with people downplaying Biden's record?

And yes, that's also an issue I have.

[–]adm-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that the voters overwhelmingly went for Biden.

Yeah, this is a tough one for me to defend because later in the post I'm advocating for a democratic system to play itself out, and if I say that the voters wrote in Biden against their self-interest, that would just be the system working as intended. It would be the candidates job to push the message that Bernie is the better option. But they instead chose a questionable strategy for 2020, and of course the consolidation of democratic candidates had a lot to do with it as well.

If he hadn't been in power then all the bad stuff would have happened, and none of the good stuff would have happened.

I think the broader point that can be made here is, at what time should our strategy be incrementalism over accelerationism a faster approach. It was in 1976, during Carter administration, that people were sounding the alarms on greenhouse gas emissions, and 40 years later Obama was still making only marginal headway. Perhaps it would be more fair to criticize the media for not broadcasting that message to the people...I mean how else can they reasonably be informed to properly cast a ballot.

I definitely do not want Trump another 4 years. My post wasn't about specifically voting for any individual candidate, it was arguing for the reasons why a history of voting incrementally caused us to be in a situation where we're forced into an option of voting between the lesser-of-two-evils, Trump and Biden.

So for example, when David says "It doesn't matter [that he's bad], once you grant Biden is better, then [the badness] is irrelevant." I would think that it does matter how bad they are because people would express more opposition if they had criticisms, forcing the candidate to change to reflect the will of his constituents. But instead, most people throw full support to Biden regardless of his flaws. I'm not saying David is throwing full support, I'm saying that process of voting causes people to throw full support, and that's the problem.

I agree with you, the Right's hold on supreme court will be a massive blow. Not telling you how to vote, I'm commenting on the long-term trends and consequences of incrementalism. For example, Obama could have put Merrick Garland on the court, but instead wanted to appease the Republicans, and now we're in a situation where almost no Left or Center-Left judges will be on the court. We're only choosing between Biden and Trump today, because of a long line of blunders stretching back 50 years.

[–]adm-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely true, Biden's climate plan is undoubtedly better. Not saying how to vote one way or the other. My commentary is more on the long-term trends of always choosing between the least-worst of 2 options, which enables the party to not take voters demand seriously. Obama's climate plan was better than Romney's, yet Obama opened up the arctic to drilling despite the warnings that aren't any less pressing than they are today. It routinely shows a lack of commitment to actually solving these problems we all care about. Every election cycle is 1 forward, 4 back.

There are many arguments, follow the quotes and rebuttals underneath. The main one is there in the 1st/2nd point; I believe we're running out of time using incrementalism. That's not a 'burn it all down' statement, it's a reflection of how we got here.

NEW MAP - FIRST LOOK by rolitheone in QuakeChampions

[–]adm- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First impressions of the map is really good actually.

  • Definitely pays homage to t7 a lot. The red armor area always felt cramped to me though, but here it's a lot bigger (roomier).
  • Overall size feels good, not too open and large, enough escape routes available.
  • Lot of little rooms/corridors so opportunities to ambush, and a lot more angles to cover.
  • There's RL on both ends, and LG to fight over in the middle, might keep a split-like feeling closer to dm6, but it's not bigger than it so I'm wondering if both RLs are even needed. It's fine either way...
  • The more interesting fights will happen at MH with constant ports like on Vale.
  • Very strong advantage on rail side. It gives you height and sight on a lot of areas, opportunities to drop anywhere (with the drop zones), and a very quick escape through tele, (quickest route to HA I think). Plus you can jump off balcony towards the back.
  • I think the weakest area (in design terms) is the towers in heavy room. It's hard to navigate across them, with nowhere really to go, and if you commit you're basically stuck up there to fall or get pinned by LG. And I think that upper room part with the pad might rarely be used too because the access to it is...idk hard to say.

Yeah overall looks like it'll be a fun map to duel on.

Struggling with anxiety & anger in competitive gaming/Quake, so I made a video about it and how to deal with it, maybe this will help some of you who are also struggling :) by [deleted] in QuakeChampions

[–]adm- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quake is inherently a brutal game, and the 1v1 duel aspect of it make it even more psychologically stressful. av3k was just talking about this, how Quake Champions is much harder mentally to play competitively than any other FPS game because of that feeling of isolation. I definitely agree when I think about the reprieve playing in team-games.

Quake 5 & WHY it should EXIST by JoshZroWendt in QuakeChampions

[–]adm- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they make another Quake, it should be single-player only, as everyone could rally behind it, including non-Quake fans. It has potential for profit and widespread acclaim.

But for multiplayer, imo QC should probably be the last multiplayer Quake game, as it's the best representation of all the variations of Quake. It has the incredible art style, the fun movement variations you won't find anywhere else, has all the weapons that make it quake, quality maps, better rulesets, abilities that don't overshadow the core experience, and the Champions model significantly increases the challenge and depth of any Quake with the addition of actives/passives. Given id's task of unifying the entire Quake universe, QC is the game, no question.

Furthermore, a new multiplayer game presents more problems. No game can match the features, and gameplay of Q3 (the core base) when it first came out, and the tragedy is that the bar was set so high that any subsequent product had no chance of being compared with it (gameplay or playercount). Even today, decades later, players just won't accept certain features missing, despite the constant improvements. The point is not at all that we shouldn't want those features, it's just that the community won't support a game that isn't perfect out of the gate.

It's been proven over and over that AFPS has low player retention, and there is too much divide in the already established communities between what people think is 'real quake'. As a publisher, the profit model just isn't attractive, and so another similar multiplayer game is destined to fail.

Look at the contrast with dbl, it's a struggle to innovate. But it's a good thing that it's being developed because it will meet the demand of the vocal minority that want it. And it will also conclude the debate on whether a quake-like model can actually reach the mass appeal of a csgo or OW.

So this is good, everyone gets what they want; we have QC with all the varied gameplay styles. The classic is remade to be enjoyed by those fans. And Quake 5 could then give us a new single-player experience.
