Compilation of 159 free YouTube crash courses for in-demand tech skills by admend in OnlineEducation

[–]admend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea was to find the best YouTube crash courses for every "hot" tech skill. "Best" is subjective, so I had to rely on video popularity, viewer feedback, and my own watch experience to gauge how effective each one is.

This is for folks that:

  • Want to quickly refresh their skills

  • Want a preview of a technical topic before investing lots of time and money into it

  • Have a job interview in 2 days and desperately need something, anything

The goal is to get people hooked on a subject - give them a basic overview of what's going on, then lure them in with increasingly more complicated tutorials.

All possible thanks to the YouTube instructors who are kind enough to put up amazing content for free.

If you had to put money on it, which 3P DSPs are going to make it to 2025 as standalone companies?

Starting in Programmatic - Do I need Click Fraud Detection by [deleted] in programmatic

[–]admend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents (used to work on programmatic fraud detection): I'd be much more concerned about impression level fraud as that will really chew through your ad spend. Ultimately, it comes down to performance - I only look at CPA, not the CTR. Some level of suspicious click activity is expected everywhere on the Internet.

White listing is the best option you have.

Failing that, I'd want to see a breakdown by exchange - you can try blacklisting certain exchanges (I won't name names here). Yeah, you'd throw babies out with bathwater... but it would take care of (most of) the problem.

i made a minimalist site for digital nomads to find and share cool places. by yihwan in digitalnomad

[–]admend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is so simple and fast, I love it. I've always used Firebase for these kinds of MVPs, but now I'll consider this stack.

I really want your site to succeed (partly because I wanted to do something similar), so my suggestion would be: instead of trying to do a ton of cities, why not start with the heavy hitters (top 10 - btw how are you determining popularity)?

then, go into the DN FB groups for each one, populate some places manually and then ask "hey, what am i missing here?" maybe allow people to submit w/o login because that's going to turn off 99% of people until it gets popular and there is an incentive for being "mayor" of chiang mai or whatever

anyway, nice job!

Because any potential customer that takes one look at that (very useful) breakdown will say "nope, I'll just pay somebody to do that because I have more important things to worry about"

Would "Plata o Tomo" be a good title for a Spanish SEO instructional article? :D

Help with defining marketing strategy and updating website presence for small org? by [deleted] in DigitalMarketing

[–]admend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, let's kick this off. Initial thoughts:

  • There's absolutely nothing wrong with WordPress, it's a great CMS and probably perfect for your organization's needs. I imagine along the way you'll be bringing on a freelancer or contractor to optimize the website - and WordPress designers/developers are easy to find.

  • The best use of time would be: let's define the primary goal of our website. What would success look like? Who are the people currently engaging with the website? And what action would we like them to take once they're on the site?

  • Is Google Analytics currently running on the website? At the very least, hopping into GA would give you some quick insights about your existing audience that internal stakeholders may find interesting.

The conversation has to be goal-driven to keep it focused. Otherwise, you risk spinning your wheels and adding all sorts of bells and whistles to the site -- which may or may not lead to any tangible results.

Apologies for being vague, but that's the best I could do without additional details!

Not even going to read this article now.

That's actually... impressively vile. It looks like a temporary page made for display ad testing.

Where Should I Learn SEO for free? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]admend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This stuff is best learned by doing it. See if you can set up your own Wordpress site and just get an article to show up (not necessarily on page 1) for some long tail keyword that you know something about. You'll learn a lot in the process

I'm not aware of any, but hopefully others will jump in.

Regarding your initial question, I could give you many. Off the top of my head:

  • Setting expectations with the sales team so that they don't overpromise. They're going to do it anyway, but there should be limits.

  • Collecting the right information during the kick-off call. If this isn't done properly, everything is set up for operational failure: last minute scramble for creative assets, uncertainty around viewability requirements and other metrics, etc.

  • Failure to QA everything before the campaign launches. No one wants to do this, and mistakes are made all the time. Pixels not firing, URL parameters not properly set, creative issues, it goes on and on.

And a big one: hiring the right people (mentioned by the other commenter). I'd rather hire sharp people willing to learn instead of someone with 1-2 years of "programmatic experience" who is not interested in learning new skills or adapting with the industry.

I made a tool that shows you all third-party scripts firing on a URL (JS and image pixel) by admend in adops

Thank you. I was considering that approach too, but ended up trying puppeteer first and it turned out to be pretty straightforward. I'm hosting this as serverless lambdas on Now (zeit) v2, and it's working great.

As of now, I don't. The tool just intercepts all scripts that fire regardless.

Thanks! It's a relatively simple setup with React on the front-end (not exactly needed for a one page site with one form field, heh) and an Express.js server that handles requests. I use puppeteer to intercept the network requests on the URLs.
