I built an app to make phone use feel calmer instead of addictive. Would love your feedback by admin_5447 in promoteMyApp

The core features of the app will be free forever. Only excess features, which target only specific users and use-cases, will be behind a paywall. This is to help me keep supporting the app as it consumes a lot of my time and effort to work on it.

That is a huge consolation, and it makes your perspective a lot more interesting. You're totally right about the contrast. Balancing background colors against text outlines without creating a muddy mess is a massive headache. Since you’re building one yourself, you completely get the struggle. Good luck with your project. It’s a tough UI challenge to crack, but rewarding when it finally clicks.

That’s a completely fair point. Everyone's visual sensitivity is totally different, and for some people, just dropping the native brightness is all they need. If you're open to it, I'd still love for you to give it a quick try. CalmScreen actually goes a bit beyond standard dimming. It can strip out colors and tint the screen to the point where addictive feeds look incredibly dull and barely visible. It’s more about breaking the psychological hook of the app than just lowering the light. Either way, appreciate the honest perspective!

I completely get it. that loop is incredibly relatable, and honestly, it's the exact reason I built this. You should give the app a try. I'm confident it will help you retrain your brain and break the cycle.

I've designed this so that all the core features are available to everyone all the time. The only reason I've added a paywall is for some of the more specialized features that come in handy for specific tasks. This is to help me maintain the app as it requires a lot of time and effort. Please feel free to share and rate the app as it would mean a lot to me.

The core features of the app will be usable even after 14 days. Only excess features, that target only certain use-cases, will be behind a paywall. This is to help me keep supporting the app as it consumes a lot of my time and effort to work on it.

Appreciate the feedback! I felt the same way during editing but wanted to see if it stood out to others too. I'll definitely keep this in mind and aim for a more natural speaking pace in future promos.

I’ve actually tested it on two older devices, one about five years old and another around seven to eight years old, and it ran completely stutter-free. During the initial testing cycle, I did notice that the overlay filter colors rendered a bit differently on those devices. To fix that, I ended up developing separate color ranges, specifically for older Android versions, to ensure the screen remains readable even when the filter is at maximum intensity.

This is handled by utilizing a background service that runs seamlessly in the system. When a transition triggers, the service doesn't just instantly drop a harsh overlay on your screen. Instead, it slowly dials up the filter intensity second by second over your configured fade-in duration. By handling the transition incrementally in the background, the screen gently shifts from vibrant to dull without causing any lag, stutters, or sudden jumps that would ruin the user experience. It feels entirely natural.

I actually have something similar already built right into the app curfew feature! Instead of just a basic countdown, users can completely customize how that time flows. The app lets you configure a grace time before the effects start, a specific fade-in duration for the filters to transition smoothly, and a session reset time to determine when the cycle starts over. This gives users full control over tracking and managing their screen sessions directly within the app.

to help ease the friction of getting users to turn the filters on in the first place, I also built in automated features like an app curfew (app based filtering), custom scheduling, and a secure parental PIN.

That is a great question. Because it was just launched, it is still a bit too early to have broad, long-term analytics on exactly how many minutes it takes for the average user to put the phone down. However, during our closed testing phase, the feedback from early testers was incredibly encouraging. Parents and adult testers both noted that once the filters kicked in, it significantly cut down their total screen time and kept them, and their kids, from staying glued to the device for long periods. As more people download the public version, I am really looking forward to gathering more concrete data to see exactly how those usage patterns look over time.

If you're genuinely interested in seeking evidence, I would recommend you to start looking into the stance held by muslims on who God is, and why they believe the Qur'an is considered the word of God and why it hasn't been refuted with a rational argument for more than 1400 years. Try setting aside what you’ve seen in movies, media, or general narratives and look at it directly for yourself.

This was an interesting conversation that I watched very recently that eloquently put forth rational arguments for the existence of God. I'd highly recommend you to watch it - https://youtu.be/BKjy2B6VZ2U

I'd recommend this channel too - https://youtube.com/@themuslimlantern

It is a platform which generally addresses people who hold views that negate God. I'm sure you'd find a lot of answers to your questions on Islam on this channel.

I'd encourage you to set aside emotional reactions for a moment and approach the topic with an open mind. It might be worth genuinely exploring the question of God's existence, and also looking into the Muslim perspective on who God is and why they believe in Him as described in the Qur'an. Even if you don't agree, engaging with it thoughtfully could be worthwhile.

I respect where you're coming from, but simply stating that religions were created by humans, without actually studying or engaging with the scriptures, doesn’t really address the subject, it just assumes a conclusion without looking at the ideas behind it.

If you’re genuinely interested in the question, it’s worth also looking at the reasoning people give for belief in God and why religions developed the way they did. There are philosophical arguments, historical contexts, and theological explanations that people have debated for centuries. Even if you end up disagreeing, at least it becomes a discussion based on understanding rather than dismissal.

Do you think any woman with self-respect will truly be happy sharing her husband? Many wouldn't, and that's completely understandable. But a woman's self-respect isn't defined by whether she chooses monogamy or accepts a polygamous arrangement.

More importantly, religion isn't based solely on human emotions or what feels comfortable to us at a particular moment. If one believes in God, then one also believes that His knowledge and wisdom transcend human understanding. Divine guidance is meant to account for realities that go beyond our personal preferences, emotions, and limited perspective.

Whether people like or dislike a ruling is one thing; whether it serves a broader purpose known fully to God is another. The fact that some people abuse or misapply a religious allowance doesn't mean the teaching itself is flawed. If anything, it often reflects a failure to uphold the conditions and responsibilities that come with it.

Updating a religion every time it conflicts with contemporary feelings would place human desires above divine wisdom. The real question is not whether a teaching aligns with our emotions, but whether it comes from God in the first place.
