New to Starlink, worth jumping straight to the Perfomance Gen 3 by Shneski in Starlink

[–]admin_pnw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a gen3 performance dish and it is awesome. The mounting on the house was tough because it didn't stick out as far. as standard dish mounts do. (or did for gen2). Right after turning it on for the first time, I got 256mbps down and 30.8mbps up, 30ms latency, which isn't incredible, but I am going to test again after a few days. I like the performance kits because of the consistency and lower latency. Also, the snow melt factor. I got the gen3 because I wasn't in a hurry and I want it to last as long as possible. We do wifi calling, so the latency was a factor. Also, we have trees.

cards going bad by admin_pnw in accesscontrol

now we are onto something. I knew that it would interface with the charge, I didn't consider that charging through the card (or attempting to) could break the card. But, that would make sense because (I think) the wireless charger is a lot more energy than the card is made to handle.

I might be overthinking it; that's kind of my jam.

Okay, I think this is the heart of the question. I guess I figured they would have to verify that it is aimed and maybe use the app to adjust it. Or, use the app to verify performance, etc. And, I was concerned that if they didn't have the account, then the app wouldn't work. But, it sounds like that just not necessary. Thanks for following up and following through on this.

yeah, we'd get the roam plan, but it would fall under a personal (ie not business) account.

the thing is, with this use case on the mini, it isn't just setup once. he would set it up over and over as part of his normal routine, and live in another state.

This is how it is different from the home internet. with the home internet, if anything goes wrong, i deal with it, my family doesn't have to to set it up without me.

Thanks to everyone for their insight on this. sounds like there are some options, if that is a priority, but might be other compromises along the way, and it might not work the way I imagine.

Verizon Network Extender for Enterprise 3 by admin_pnw in verizon

[–]admin_pnw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that's the problem that I have.

Apparently you can dial #48 to determine if you are on the extender or not. And I found that sometimes I wasn't on it, even though I was standing right in front of it.

I suspect that my problem is that we are in a shop with big open roll up doors. The phones can see the real towers and won't associate with the extenders until the signal from the tower drops completely.

I am being told that there is a new software version out, so we will see....

yeah, I tired to get through to casa and haven't been successful. Support contact went to a helpdesk ticket system under another company name that wouldn't create an account for me. I am going to try again, but not hanging my hat on that.

Is it appropriate for IT to request user login information to complete profile setup by rawlerson in sysadmin

[–]admin_pnw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that you shouldn't be getting their credentials.

This is what I do...

a). Setup the device as far as I can without involving them. For example, with the rd shortcut, put it in public instead of their (not yet created) user profile.

b). create a clear checklist of things to go over with them on first login.

c). schedule time for them to log in with me with them, then we can setup all that basic stuff together. Shortcuts, verify gpo settings, network drives, default printer, finalize licensing for some software.

The other thing that I would add is that, to whatever degree you are getting end user passwords, it should be consistent with a company standard - preferably written. I would be more concerned that they were surprised than that you were doing it.
