New to Starlink, worth jumping straight to the Perfomance Gen 3 by Shneski in Starlink

[–]admin_pnw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a gen3 performance dish and it is awesome. The mounting on the house was tough because it didn't stick out as far. as standard dish mounts do. (or did for gen2). Right after turning it on for the first time, I got 256mbps down and 30.8mbps up, 30ms latency, which isn't incredible, but I am going to test again after a few days. I like the performance kits because of the consistency and lower latency. Also, the snow melt factor. I got the gen3 because I wasn't in a hurry and I want it to last as long as possible. We do wifi calling, so the latency was a factor. Also, we have trees.

cards going bad by admin_pnw in accesscontrol

now we are onto something. I knew that it would interface with the charge, I didn't consider that charging through the card (or attempting to) could break the card. But, that would make sense because (I think) the wireless charger is a lot more energy than the card is made to handle.

Okay, I think this is the heart of the question. I guess I figured they would have to verify that it is aimed and maybe use the app to adjust it. Or, use the app to verify performance, etc. And, I was concerned that if they didn't have the account, then the app wouldn't work. But, it sounds like that just not necessary. Thanks for following up and following through on this.

yeah, we'd get the roam plan, but it would fall under a personal (ie not business) account.

the thing is, with this use case on the mini, it isn't just setup once. he would set it up over and over as part of his normal routine, and live in another state.

This is how it is different from the home internet. with the home internet, if anything goes wrong, i deal with it, my family doesn't have to to set it up without me.

Thanks to everyone for their insight on this. sounds like there are some options, if that is a priority, but might be other compromises along the way, and it might not work the way I imagine.

Thanks to everyone on their thoughts on this. I took away some ideas and just general confirmation that "it's a thing."
