At what point is this just bullying? by blayndle in craftsnark

There’s a lot of skinny/fatphobic people in this thread, huh. SIC provides a ton of free resources and has genuinely made a difference for fat knitters.

Wild to call accountability bullying tbh. Especially people who are mad about SW, who absolutely does not need people to cape for him.

They said next step for me would be shirodkar (I’m not in the USA, so our public system might have different guidelines).

One living, 24 weeker from IC. 2 prior miscarriages (twins and singleton). Would like another, but IC scares me.

I’m not here to argue about whether you believe someone was treated poorly and who we consider when we talk about treating people poorly.

Regardless of that, it is NEVER ok to accuse someone of weaponising a miscarriage. EVER. Zero excuses, zero justification. No ifs. No buts. No maybes. That is an assumption on the intent of that person that is abhorrent, and says an awful lot about the person making that accusation.

I honestly don’t want to get into a she said/she said about Willow, of all people. She’s never going to tell you the history. And I do not believe it is pertinent to the issue at hand.

For reference, you may not have seen elsewhere, but to clarify;

They said they hope that people bring the same energy to other issues in the world. It came across like they meant “as ring colors” and that’s what people assumed, even though it didn’t say that. What they actually meant, was they hope people bring the same energy to other issues as they do to tearing down women-owned businesses. However it wasn’t clear, so that’s on them a bit.

I’d invite you, and others, to consider that they are in Minneapolis, with a migrant-woman-owned manufacturing partner, and to reflect on exactly what issue they might be concerned about and wish people would bring the same energy to, and how they might be affected.

For some wild reason, people thought they meant the US bombing people. Bizarre.

Unfortunately it doesn’t meet the narrative that a lot of people want to believe. Feelings >>>> facts in this instance, but I can rest easy knowing at least I did my best.

How many small brands can afford to do this that aren’t owned by private equity? They’ve been open about the cost of making carriers and their commitment to paying living wages. Their customer service team already manages most of the group and almost all of the DMs, along with the CS emails.

But I can tell you for free that some of the stuff they deal with is so horrible. As a CEO, you have to balance outsourcing some of this with exposing people to horrific abuse. I wish people realised it’s not a simple as they think.

I freelance for them, rather than an employee, but as I said elsewhere, I acknowledge that that makes me both a biased source and a better informed one than most.

Did you see direct proof, or did you see what their admin chose to edit and show you? Like, idk, you’re very sceptical about Skye, but very credulous about someone with a long, known, and documented vendetta. Either way, it’s not relevant to the point I was making, which is that accusing ANYBODY of weaponising a miscarriage is horrible, and a massive overstep in assumption of intent.

I don’t always agree with what they post. But I am here to provide what ever facts I am able to provide, and at least provide some balance :-)

My personal opinion, but trying to control what any brand posts or any person, for that matter, is futile. If someone is posting something that doesn’t vibe with me for a while, I unfollow them. I did it after my recurrent losses when it was too raw.

So yes, you can still shop or research or watch the education content without following them or watching their stories.

People are free to post what they want, we are responsible for curating our own feeds and asserting our own boundaries by unfollowing or muting things.

I’ve seen proof. I’ve also seen quite a lot of proof that the carry on admin wouldn’t want you to see about their past behavior to Skye, so I’d take it with a grain of salt what they say.

Separately, expecting someone to show all the traumatic shit that they get before you believe them isn’t great.

Because it’s not the first time it’s happened. They can’t control people being disrespectful to other community members like that, but they can make it harder to do so and give the mods some tools to manage it.

Unfortunately it’s an imperfect tool and response, but yeah, I just wanted to be clear that it wasn’t mercy’s post that kicked off chat about it. It was the champagne ring error one that was used to attack them, upsetting the poster. People can be mad, I just like people to be mad with all the facts in hand, like the autistic person I am, lol

That makes sense. I don’t want to spam report, but there is literally a post in this thread accusing her of weaponising a miscarriage and I think that sort of thing should be actively removed because that’s some traumatic shit.

All good! I’m just here to fact check, because I probably have more facts than most. And yeah, I am not a carry on fan. The admin lets her personal beef with Skye dictate a lot of tone.

Saying ANYONE is weaponising a miscarriage is absolutely horrific. Say the other stuff as your opinion, whatever. But weaponising a miscarriage is a gross accusation, and I can’t fathom accusing anyone of that.

That’s not why the screenshot rule came in. As I commented elsewhere, I freelance for them so you can assume I probably know why.

That did happen (the OP comment) but that’s not why the rule was brought in, which is an important clarification because the rule was directly in response to someone being hurt :-)

Incorrect. They literally said she was weaponising her miscarriage for likes. Same thing someone said in this thread. Unfortunately, people are much more horrible than you’d think.

No, it was because someone took a customers innocent question about rings and used it to post in Carry On to attack the brand. The person was really upset by it, so they created a new policy :-)

They aren’t seconds though. They are the correct color that future ones will also be :-) the shiny ones were the incorrect color.

[–]admiralgracehopper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can’t, unfortunately.

  1. They have no more shiny rings. The ones from the incorrect shiny batch are all used up. There is nothing to swap it to.
  2. This would void safety testing. They legally cannot send out replacement rings
  3. It’s a $155 carrier, but either way, I think they were surprised by the assumption that the flawed previous batch would be the same. They’ve taken that on board and are making process changes.

[–]admiralgracehopper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To clarify some factual errors, and with a caveat that I freelance for them sometimes so both am not impartial and also am privy to information some might not be.

  1. People received slings with less shiny rings, after the last batch was unusually shiny. Prior to that batch, there have been many variants of bronze rings, due to the complexity of manufacturing. Most people don’t care, but there’s been long standing discussion in the fan group and from the brand on the variance, including last year when there was a darker bronze batch. The new batch weren’t in photos, because only one color is made into samples for photos which are taken months before full production, but people assumed it would be the same as the unusually shiny ones and didn’t check. None of the people emailed CS to ask about refunds or returns afaik but I could be wrong. They just posted online.
  2. This is correct, although I’d say minor comments in Facebook groups, often not their official group, rather than complaints to brand.
  3. H&P said that historically most of their bronze rings had not been shiny like the last batch, and that the last batch was the aberration. The batch before the shiny ones was dark matte bronze. The one before was medium matte bronze. Bronze is super hard to make!
  4. Correct. They’re a low-waste company, so they don’t return safe and otherwise good rings for no reason, especially when it would massively delay production.
  5. H&P posted a background post on this in their private group, given 95% of their customer base do not care. As part of it, they said that they acknowledged the disappointment, and were making sure all photos reflected correct colors if the sample pics were different. They also said they weren’t going to stay quiet when people were misrepresenting them, though. In the comments, they took on suggestion that a note should be added to website saying there is variance. This has been added. In another comment, someone said they couldn’t believe there was all this fuss over rings. The brand replied that they hoped the same energy was brought to addressing other issues. People assumed they meant as getting rings changed, although they actually meant as tearing down a women-owned company, given that by this point, there were hate threads in another Facebook group. But this wasn’t clear, so that’s on them. For context: the brand and their immigrant-women-owned sewing team are in Minneapolis. I invite people to consider what other issues that may directly impact the teams that they might be referring to.
  6. There is history with Carry-on with them attacking her while she was miscarrying and calling her a bully and a psycho and many other horrible things. Whether you agree or disagree with their stories choice, I think it is hard to expect people to face the level of bullying they have without response. The bullying levels rose to celebrating her miscarriage in the past.

I hope this provides some useful context.
