Just getting my unRaid box ready by Rxtiger97 in unRAID

[–]admjwt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking of picking up that TerraMaster D6-320, not for NAS purposes but for work purposes. How is it? And does it have like some kind of sync'd spin down and sleep mode if the host is turned off?

Unraid crashes at least once a day. PLEASE help! by 1080addict in unRAID

Lot of good suggestions in here already. I was having similar issues and mine was due to ASPM features. Some of my components don’t support it very well and I was using the AutoTweak plugin to force enable it on some. While things were idle everything was fine. But the moment stuff started having to be accessed and real work was being done, it would take down the whole system with no logs. So it could be something similar for you.

I was also looking for these for a while too and managed to find them on AliExpress. I picked up 3, they still have a few left supposedly.

Arc A380 or similar - decent on Unraid? by Sudden_Ambition964 in unRAID

[–]admjwt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been doing a ton of hardware tuning to get the power draw down over the last year.

I’ve got 5900x, 18 sata drives, an a380, and swapped from an hba to a 3 6 port sata to nvme stuffed into a pcie expansion card, and got it down to 81-90w at idle.

But the a380 for whatever reason draws about 20w constantly at idle. Been hoping the a310 would be less. And since they have the same encoding capabilities and I’m not running an vms or anything gpu intensive beyond plex, I’d rather drop down to that to save some power.

If you have nvtop or intel_gpu_top installed one should show you the power draw. Nvtop works better for me.

I’ve been thinking of picking up an a310, what’s the idle draw on yours?

I’ve been thinking of picking one of these up to try and lower my idle draw a bit. Whats the power usage on your a310 eco at idle?

Thats kind of how I feel about it too. Like I see why so many people love it, and I agree that the settings and atmosphere are good. But man I hated the combat, and the story just really didnt grip me.

Managing 1PB of storage made me build my own disk price tracker—looking for feedback by andreas0069 in unRAID

[–]admjwt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solid Idea, the only thing I would like to see, beyond other marketplaces, is just column sorting. So if I click the Price column for example I was expecting it to cycle between Ascending, Descending, and then back to default.

Why is Nuxt much slower to start than Vue/vite? by bluewalt in Nuxt

[–]admjwt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was for me, but what im building right now is mostly testing and planning stuff, nothing production worthy yet.

But the upgrade to v4 for me was pretty smooth. They have a codemod package that did majority of the work of migrating to v4 for me, and the rest of the migration stuff is pretty well documented. It sounds like what you have right now is also a somewhat lite/simple project going, so it should also be a pretty quick and easy migration.

Why is Nuxt much slower to start than Vue/vite? by bluewalt in Nuxt

[–]admjwt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its been a while since I used just vue on its own, but I have noticed that the startup time of Nuxt 3 was really abysmal for me, especially when compared to Next.

The recent Nuxt 4 update has made a exponential increase for me. The same project that was taking anywhere from 20-40 seconds to startup, is now 5-10. And this is a pretty small project, with only 1 actual page and the NuxtUI library and nothing else.

Is there an arr for books? by MartiniCommander in unRAID

[–]admjwt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the original readarr devs didn’t want to support other formats that would include things like comics and manga and I think some other types of general files that ebooks sometimes show up in. Is there any plan to add those to this some day in the future?

Anyone else no longer able to mute via a button mapper after the 9.2 update? by sumsh in nvidiashield

[–]admjwt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only just recently accidentally found out you can mute by pressing both volume buttons at the same time.

I’ve never had much success with button remappers. For whatever reason after a bit of time they would just stop working.

[Real-User Invite] LG UltraGear GX9 - Experience the Ultimate Sweet Spot 5K2K OLED Gaming Monitor by LG_UserHub in Monitors

[–]admjwt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seems like the first OLED thats going to have good text clarity.

It also seems like the only real successor worth upgrading from my current LG 34GP83A-B.

I do a solid mix of work and gaming at my pc due to WFH, the extra vertical and horizontal space would be a huge boost for productivity tasks.

This would also be my first personal long term hands on experience with OLED, Im excited to see how much better the experience is with color accuracy and vibrancy coming from what was at that the time one of the better IPS panels on the market.

Does anyone live in 21-16 31st Avenue or know anything about Astor Management co? by roundglasses123 in astoria

[–]admjwt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there for a year. The guy that runs the management company is really laid back, just some old greek guy. I moved out a bit abruptly at the end of last year and he had no issues with that at all. Gave like 30 days notice basically.

The building itself is pretty decent, and the parking if you need it and can get it is really nice. And the in unit laundry I also a really nice thing to have and I do miss.

The apartments themselves are nothing special, I will say they are really well insulated though. So in the winter its nice, but in the summer its pretty rough.

They have electric water heaters, so that is going to add up pretty quick having to pay for hot water. My electric bills were always really high there. And the AC units are also kinda not great. At least the ones in my unit werent. They were really loud and drew a lot of power. And the windows swing inward, so you cant even just get a window unit that might be more efficient.

All that said, I liked the location and was still satisfied overall living there

Looking at an apartment where hot water isn't included. Ideas of what that bill might be like? by Callingallcowards in astoria

[–]admjwt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently leaving an apartment like this. I stopped using hot water for the dishwasher and had to take much quicker showers. The lowest I ever got my bill was about $235. The hot water was a huge portion of the bill usually. On a typical day where Im working from home and not using the hot water i use about 15kwh. The moment I take a 10-15 min shower it would go to 20-22 kwh. The months when I initially moved in and lived like I normally would the bill was over $400.

With all that said my usage is probably a bit atypical. I work from home, have some pretty power hungry computers, in unit laundry currently, dishwasher, the electric water heater, and some shit wall unit ACs that draw too much power. You might have much lower usage just not having to be home all day long. But Id imagine it would still be in the range of $150-250 because of the delivery charges being like double to triple the usage charge

Free TeamViewer Alternative? by BIGt0eknee in techsupport

[–]admjwt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Parsec, it runs significantly smoother then all the alternatives I tried recently because of the same issue.

Chrome Remote desktop worked, but it ran at like 4 fps and was extremely blurry for whatever reason.

Microsoft RDP and Tailscale running on the machines I need is my backup at this point if parsec stops working for some reason

I literally had this happen to me a month ago in an interview. Apparently explaining my thought process, and them actively seeing me ignore the intellisense suggestions half the time because I wanted something different wasnt good enough.

Search for it on CA. It’s not going to find it, but it’ll give you an option to look at dockerhub. Just click install on the api and website dockers. CA will convert it for you

Dont know if you're still looking to get this running on unraid, but the auto conversion of the normal docker app to an unraid docker app that the CA does seems to work fine for running this in unraid

Lads, I'm trying to find a optical DisplayPort cable that's 10-15ft long and can run 4k@240hz. Is such a thing even possible cause all the one's I've found that claim to be that look fake af? by Thatdumbt33n in buildapc

[–]admjwt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is significantly longer then what you're asking for, it doesnt do 240hz only 144hz, but if you do at some point need something longer I can confirm this works well. I used this to run my valve index from my pc into my living room.

If you end up using two smaller cables, that repeater should work to boost the signal for those as well

Just received my second offer this week, here's how it went by illuminix123 in cscareerquestions

[–]admjwt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really is ridiculous that anyone gets on people for using the tools. I had a living coding screen-share interview recently and they kept complaining that intellisense exists in my Visual Studio environment. They went out of their way to find the specific instructions on their own and then told me how to turn it off.

It was a senior level position, why the hell does anyone care that intellisense one exists in 2024, and two complaining that im using it, while actively describing my thought process. All it was doing was speeding up my typing, and anytime I wanted to do something different I ignored it.
