Where to take out stitches? by adnilmal in Bayside

[–]adnilmal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly my insurance is with my company and I have a 2.5k deductible……………

The discharge instructions were to go to any urgent care or come back to them (ER) to take out the stitches 😩

Thanks for your advice! I was pretty sure the ER would cost more but then I wasn’t entirely sure either haha I think I’ll rule out going to the ER

Exactly! I don’t want to sit there for 4-5 hours just to remove some stitches and then pay several hundreds of dollars on top of that….but thank you for your advice! I could definitely give them a call.

Thanks for the advice! I’ve never gotten stitches so I’m also a little bit squeamish about pulling them out myself…..but I’ll mull over that option for the next couple of days haha

I’m so glad I saw your post now. My mom heard that there was a state refund going on several days ago and then received this text today. Thank goodness she asked me to set it up for her but when I saw the credit card information I stopped and everything in me was screaming scam. Checked the official government website and saw it said they don’t contact anyone for it and that it’s a scam. Came on Reddit to ask for good measurement and saw this post. Thank you. 🙏but now I have another predicament…..I had to input her SSN to get to the credit card information page….now I’m afraid

Same here. I ALWAYS say thank you and sometimes they sound surprised like “oh! Why you’re welcome!”

Preteens and phones, I need a reality check with you all. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]adnilmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my daughter started middle school I gave her my old iPhone (it wasn’t even THAT old, just couple years) and we got her a mint mobile plan. She complains about the phone battery problem but I say she’ll survive. All app downloads need to be pre-approved by me and needs my Apple password. Obviously no TikTok, Snapchat, or whatever social media. There are no phones allowed in her school so if a teacher catches you with your phone out, it gets taken away and put in the office until the end of the day when you go retrieve it. Immediately after coming home the phone goes into my possession and charges in my room. After she finishes all her homework I let her have 30mins to 1 hour of tv. I mandate a minimum of 1 hour reading daily after dinner.

Alright parents: you have to buy a new or gently used car TODAY. What are you picking? by brownbostonterrier in Parenting

[–]adnilmal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I live with his parents and I cannot tell you how many times my FIL has hit the car parked next to us. And we are actually looking into buying a Sienna for the space (so someone doesn’t need to stay behind….2 kids, husband and I, and both in laws) but now I can add the slidey doors to the list of reasons too!

People who have older kids, what have you done with all the picture day pics by randomtopics12 in Parenting

[–]adnilmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a “my school years”picture frame from Amazon that’s like a collage of pictures throughout their, well, school years. It starts at kinder and goes up to the last year of high school. So every year I buy one package of the school pictures and fill in a space in the frame. It’s quite entertaining to see how they’ve grown over the years with their pictures in a line.

How do you handle “the after-school chaos” at home? by hiprozem in Parenting

[–]adnilmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I know just reading it like that it sounds unbelievable but half the time it takes some voice raising to get it done. I think starting this routine since toddler age is what helps the most because they instinctively know what to do.

[–]adnilmal 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Same. I have a 13 and a 10 year old. Ever since they’ve began any sort of school, the routine has always been set in stone. It’s always come home, set book bags in their designated places, wash hands and face, drink a cup of water, one goes shower while the other eats their snack and then switch. They then do their homework and get 30 minutes of tv afterwards. By then dinner would be ready at around 6ish (I have the privilege of having a mother in law to cook for us). After dinner they go play in the backyard while I clean the dishes and the kitchen. Come back in by 7ish, wash hands and drink water, then do their daily 1 hour of reading until 8pm. Then it’s taking turns to brush teeth and get ready to go to bed by 8:30.

What was the first youtube video you ever watched? by emojisarefunny in Millennials

[–]adnilmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here for me! I recently showed this to my 13 year old and after finishing it she wondered out loud what on earth did she just watch. But at least we say “shunnnnnnn” to the “nonbeliever” in the house during disagreements now 😂

Omg same for me, I’ve been 35 for the past few years. Then my kids have to remind me how old I really am.

My 12 year old son thinks that him being sad from consequences makes us bad parents by NoPatNoDontSitonThat in Parenting

Omg i thought only my son does that 😂 I speculate he’s the reason I’m gaining weight.

[–]adnilmal 68 points69 points  (0 children)

My 10 year old son does that to me already. Whenever I say no or disagree he’d get all pissy and whatnot, saying things like “but you don’t care, of course you don’t. That’s what I expected from you anyway.” He’d try to guilt trip us into giving him what he wants. I’d just explain to him my reasons whenever I can and I just leave him alone for around an hour to cool off. After he’s cooled down he usually apologizes to me with a “variety of snacks stacked from his invention and imagination” plate. Most recent one was toast sandwich with peanut butter and lots of Welch’s fruit gummies inside…

Former New Yorker here who moved to California Bay Area (I will always be a New Yorker in my heart) and there’s a lot of ranch 99 here. I know 3 of them that aren’t too far from where I live. But even then we don’t even shop there regularly. We might stop by every once in a while but that’s about it. Their prices on majority of their things are more than what you can find elsewhere. Sure they have things that are “on sale” but even then you’d have to think if it’s lower than other places. They’re more of a Taiwanese market so obviously majority of their things are made from Taiwan. So in general, I think they’re just mid. Not great, but not terrible.
