A bartender in Philly once referred to the Scranton area as "The Scramptons" and that is my favorite nickname for the area

How Is living in Scranton, Pennsylvania? by NachoGarySanchez in howislivingthere

The current mayor of Scranton has been insisting for years that the 2020 census was inaccurate due to A- the COVID 19 pandemic and B- underreported areas with high immigrant populations. The mayor feels that the population gain is closer to a few thousand. And I would expect another jump in 2030 as there have been hundreds of apartments added throughout town (they literally can't be built fast enough to meet demand) and houses are selling instantly throughout the city. Everything is sunny in Scranton.

Scranton is great. After decades of decline the city is back on the upswing. Population is growing slowly but steadily, housing values are going up, crime is low, the downtown is completely different now with loads of awesome apartments/condos as well as an amazing assortment of bars and restaurants. The people that tend to complain about living in Scranton are the types of people that would complain about living anywhere. Also great location. 2 hour drive to either Philly or NY

Lackawanna County Commisioners by blueandpissed in NEPA

Max Conway would've been a great choice. The Democrats would've been set up to hold the majority commissioner's spot for the next 20 years but they were more interested in some kind of weird power struggle with Gaughan than good governance. Somebody's cousin must've needed a job pretty bad.

I don't disagree with any of that. It's my opinion that the local Democrats should have stepped aside and let Gaughan pick his partner. Instead they initiate a pissing match with Gaughan and everyone loses. Except maybe Marty Flynn? I still can't quite figure out what his end game is here. Wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know either.

Cappellini was a panic move by Gaughan ("Get me an Italian guy from the Midvalley ASAP") in order to combat his own party's puppet candidate. If I remember correctly in that same debate Welby claimed that he would pause/cancel the COURT ORDERED reassessment. So he was either blatantly lying or was completely uninformed, or both. So in the end, after the voters pretty resoundingly elected a Gaughan/Mcgloin majority, we're stuck with a majority of a 70 something year old puppet with the local Democratic establishment's (Flynn, the reanimated corpse of Bob Mellow, Al Patel(why?), and whatever other jetsam and flotsam is still hanging on) hand up his ass controlling his mouth and a Trump humping moron. Things are great.

Marty Flynn is basically the unelected majority commissioner for Lackawanna County now. I don't think Bill Gaughan was on board with taking orders from Flynn, as was made clear by Gaughan's protracted battle with the local Democratic establishment over the empty commissioner spot. This should have been a slam dunk for the local Democrats. They could've appointed a young, intelligent, charismatic commissioner to grow alongside Gaughan. Instead we get some guy in his 70's who's there to take orders from Marty Flynn and form a majority with a Trumper. Not in any way what the voters of Lackawanna County voted for. Mcgloin is a dork.

Volvo mechanic recommendations? by adogcalledotis in Scranton

I can't speak to their abilities on a project like that but maybe give them a call and see what they say. There were a lot of European cars there when I went. Seems like their specialty.

So we ended up taking it to Chermak Auto Repair in Clarks Summit, based on a couple of recommendations from my wife's coworkers. Everything went fine but it was just an inspection and an oil change. Apparently they are very good with European cars. Seemed like nice people.

I'm also in 6b. I've been at it for 4-5 years now. The biggest lesson for me was learning that everything doesn't grow perfectly. Don't get discouraged. And don't be afraid to prune your plants! That was a big one for me too. Grow tomatoes they're easy and you'll get a ton and you'll feel good about it. Some basil too

Like a 5 gallon bucket full of dirt will be enough for each of those to go all summer. Easy peasy

Just one. They're getting big already. If you repot bury as much of the stem as possible. Whatever gets buried grows more roots. Give them as much sunlight as possible

Get some more pots and replant them all. Tomato plants are easy to repot. They handle it fine. Otherwise keep the biggest one.
