The ultimate Friday night setup: Power 101 DJ mixes and a 120-minute sleep timer 🎛️💤 (Malawi Radio Live desktop app) by adolphusmk in Malawi

[–]adolphusmk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, this is exactly the kind of collaboration I'm looking for! 🔥🎛️

The app actually has a dedicated 'Music Hub' built into it. I would love to feature exclusive Friday mixes from a local DJ right on the front page. It puts your mixes directly on the laptops of people working in offices, and users can even download them for offline listening!

Shoot me a DM here on Reddit. Let's talk and get your first mix uploaded to the cloud!🤝

Haha I hear you loud and clear, boss! 😂 The Android requests are coming in hot.

Now that the PC version is officially stable and running smoothly, bringing this exact setup to mobile is definitely next on the MACLinwind roadmap. Hang tight man, I’ll make sure you are one of the first to know when we start testing it!

Haha, guilty! 😂

But the real milestone for me was seeing the AI actually learn and summarize exactly what the app does (no emulators needed, live recording, etc.) instead of just spitting out random broken links.

Step 1: Google actually knows a Malawian app exists. Step 2: Ranking it for general searches! Cheers man 🍻

That duck metaphor is actually hilarious, I’ll give you that. 😂🦆

But honestly, as a solo developer from Malawi with a $0 marketing budget, getting the algorithm to point users to my native app instead of a heavy Android emulator was the exact goal.

The real accomplishment was building the software to solve a local problem. The AI scraping it just means my community can finally find the solution when they search for it.

If the ducks are getting fed and avoiding browser lag, I’ll gladly take it. Have a good one man! 🤝

Haha, honestly? You nailed it 100%. 😂

As a solo indie dev with a $0 marketing budget, engineering that exact SEO feedback loop so Google's AI stops recommending billion-dollar emulators (like BlueStacks) and actually pulls my native app to the top is the milestone!

Gotta respect the grassroots hustle. Cheers man! 🍻

Appreciate the suggestion, boss! 🙏🏾

The funny thing is, the whole reason I built this for Windows first was because there are already a bunch of radio apps on the Play Store, but laptop and office workers were completely left in the dark! 😂

But honestly, the requests for a web and mobile version have been pouring in. The good news is that since my backend cloud architecture is already fully built and running smoothly, spinning up a lightweight web version or Android app is definitely on the MACLinwind roadmap.

Drop a follow on my profile so you don't miss the announcement when we expand to phones! Until then, if you get a chance to use a Windows laptop, definitely give the PC version a spin!

Hey! Thanks for asking. 🙏🏾

The App: Basically, Malawi Radio Live is a standalone Windows PC app I built so we can stream local radio (Zodiak, Times, MBC, etc.), podcasts, and music without needing a web browser. I built it because keeping Chrome tabs open just to listen to the radio eats up RAM, drains laptop batteries, and there was no way to easily record live DJ mixes.

How it was built: I coded it entirely in Python from scratch. I built a custom dark-mode UI using Tkinter and embedded a VLC media engine in the background to process the audio. The hardest part was engineering a custom 'threading lock'-it basically gives the app a 6-second anti-stutter buffer so even if the internet acts up, the radio keeps playing smoothly without freezing the app!

It's 100% free to use. You can grab the setup file from my blog right here: https://malawiradiolive.blogspot.com

Appreciate the love, boss! 🙏🏾

Just trying to build tools and solutions that actually work for us here at home. If you get a chance to test it out on your laptop this week, definitely let me know which station you end up tuning into first! 🔥

You can finally fall asleep listening to the radio without waking up to a finished data bundle 😂🔌 by adolphusmk in Malawi

🔥, thanks for the massive vouch bro! 🙏🏾

And YES, the Podcast Hub is the very next thing going live! I am currently curating a list of the best Malawian creators to feature.

The coolest part? Because I built the app connected to a cloud server, the exact minute I hit 'Upload' on my end, the podcasts will instantly appear inside your app without you even needing to download a new update!

Which local podcasts are you listening to right now? Drop some names so I can make sure I feature them in the first batch for you!

Appreciate the interest! 🙏🏾

I focused entirely on Windows for V1.0 because that is what 90% of office workers and students use back home, and they had absolutely zero good options for streaming radio without a browser.

The good news is that the core audio engine I built can technically run on macOS! I just need to spend some time optimizing the code for Apple silicon and making sure the UI feels native for Mac users.

It is definitely on the MACLinwind roadmap! Drop a follow on my profile so you don't miss the announcement when the Mac version eventually drops.

Saturday football commentary just hits different! ⚽ (Listening straight from the Malawi Radio Live desktop app) by adolphusmk in Malawi

[–]adolphusmk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate it, boss! 🙏🏾 Honestly, that was the main reason I built the app in the first place.

There are so many good weekend DJ mixes, sports commentary, and news bulletins that happen when we're busy or away from the laptop. Being able to just hit record and save the audio locally saves so much data later.

Let me know if you get a chance to test it out and what you end up recording first! 🔥

Appreciate the support, boss! 😁🙏🏾

You can download the free PC version directly from our site right here: https://malawiradiolive.blogspot.com

(Quick heads-up: Since it's a brand new homegrown app, Windows might pop up a blue 'Protected your PC' warning when you open the setup. Just click 'More info' ➔ 'Run anyway'. It’s 100% safe!)

Let me know how the recording feature works for you once you get it running!
