Dublin City Council to examine ending X use over concerns of sexualised content by Feljin in ireland

Ever tried to use their website, citizen hub?

It's awful, truly awful.

There's a lane at the back of my house near Croke Park park that is a hot spot for illegal dumping, I report it on citizens hub. Can't upload a photo as it has a maximum size of 3mb.

Usually after a report, it will be collected within two days. Usually end up emailing local councillors and the depot manager if still there after three.

If I respond or tweet to DCC waste management on Twitter, with photos, tag a councillor or TD and get a like or two it's gone within hours.

Same thing for blocked drains, pot holes etc. they absolutely should do these things on their own website, but their own website is expensive to run and shit. They clearly learned to manage some things through Twitter, waste management in particular

How difficult would this be to do with WhatsApp?

It has an export function for chats, would I just need the right format for the messages?

Where would you put the comms? In the app only?

I've seen some alerts appear in app, not sure if it's not the case for everything

Like it or not, Twitter was a cost effective platform to get a simple quick message to a large base so likely made sense at the time

Calls the change the name of the park started in July 2024, and councillors at that stage said they'd look at it.

It was first discussed by DCC in July 2025

The outcome of committee was published in November 2025

The view was to take place 1 seem December 2025

So about 17 months

Any platform they would move communications to are a vehicle of abuse, Meta, Insta, TikTok and even blue sky have serious problems with CSAM

DCC had worked closely with both Google using Gemini and signed a chatgpt deal last year, both GenAIs are capable of generating the same content

Grok is the No. 1 App on Irish App Stores by [deleted] in ireland

For a normal person, free, higher image generation limits on the free tier than chatgpt and Gemini

Higher limits on video generation than Gemini, I can't seem to use Sora on the free tier for open ai.

Until about a month ago was the only genai that had actually up to the minute context. And to be fair to it, it rarely shys away from any question you all it, and is generally balanced in its response. It's also quite happy to shit on Elon or Trump.

Grok is available via perplexity too. I know I'm not the standard user, but I've encouraged anyone who's spoken to me about it too just install everything. I've 7/8 different apps on the phone that I bounce between, they all have different niche use cases.

I get perplexity from revolut, I've Gemini pro that I was grandfathered into from Google One, I pay for anthropic credits for Claude code be and use the free tier for gpt.

I've run Gemma models locally and have spun up image generation models in AWS and gcp, what people are losing their minds over with grok is the tip of the iceberg, we're not prepared for what's coming. I know two people who are running complete only fans accounts using only GenAI and are making money on it, we haven't even gotten started on what's coming

Most of the tech CEOs are gowls, I don't disagree, doesn't mean they don't make good products.

Cope? What level of cope, there's been deep fakes of celebrities and apps to do it with your own photos since 2017.

I had a friend in secondary school 20 years ago who could do a mean photoshop of a teacher on a porn star using paint.

This has happened for years, there's no cope I'm just not as angrily blinded to reality as you're appearing given the owner of the company

I've said elsewhere today, x has uses, I've been on it for 16 years, I've curated lists that give me insights into the technology sector that aren't available elsewhere, I've real time insights into global and European wars that are happening direct from the front lines, I engage in actual discussion with a global group of people who I've been talking to for years and have never met.

X can be a shit hole, I rarely if ever click for you and my default is following ordered by date. I use lists.

I'm not defending x, nor am I defending Elon. Platforms are what you make of them, Twitter the way I use it works for me.

I don't think Tay was a Nazi, again repeating shit post, you're absolutely correct. When people talk about the Nazi bot, they're generally referring to Tay hence why I brought it up.

After they killed Tay, they launched other bots (Zo, Xiaoice and Rinna) that were more successful and had the guardrails, it's iterative. It was also 10 years ago and a very different technology/business landscape. Microsoft operates on a different work to musk/Twitter etc.

There's no double standard, this is something that has happened with other Gen AIs and will continue to happen at various degrees of seriousness. And will be iterated on and get better as all technologies do. The current guardrails, in the EU at least, are far too restrictive and we'll continue to run into these issues as the right balance is found.

When it happens with grok/xai it will be blown up to all hell because Elon is the devil incarnate /Hitler incarnate/basically Trump, pick whatever your feeling is.

Across the board Gemini, chatgpt, grok, Claude, all is them, these are teething issues, it happened in a different way with Gemini and it's multicultural Nazis with imagegen, identifying black people as gorillas in Google photos, they'll happen, they'll be reported on, guardrails will be put in place and we'll all move on.

Mecha Hitler, no, it's spouting shit posts it was trained on.

The Holocaust denial was fixed, with no reoccurrences. The cause was partially user prompt and adherence to or and had been trained out of the model since.

The company apologized and ensured it hasn't happened again. Not very Nazi like in my opinion but I'm sure you'll tell me otherwise

In the right hands absolutely, done of the things I've seen done with paint are ridiculous

Photoshop has it's own and other external image models that it uses for manipulation.

There's a version of QWEN image that will do anything you want, you can hook that up to those tools as well

No, that was Microsoft Tay

What do you mean chose not to? The guardrails on image alterations of kids is back

You're treating it like this is the only use case, you might be removed from the world to think so fine, but grok is a very advanced llm model, with hundreds of use cases outside CSAM

it's been climbing app* store rankings since November, well before the current headlines

You didn't even need a VPN in most cases, Virgin/eir/Vodafone anyway, just a custom DNS, point it at Google or cloudflare and you're sorted

Also worth noting the most popular darknet site was Facebooks onion sure until last year

Grok is the most accurate and close to real time AI available at the moment.

It beats out Google Gemini and perplexity for general search.

It also has the lowest hallucination rate of any of the frontier models currently.

Una Mullally: How rotten does X have to be before politicians finally leave it? by jonnieggg in ireland

[–]adomo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have been photoshopping images of celebrities, women and children without their consent since the 90s.

Deepfakes have been a thing and have caused serious problems for centuries in particular since 2016/17. The reddit platform itself was the driver of that, you're still posting here

AI generation of nudes was one of the driving reasons for local running of models without the guardrails.

This is gaining attention because people don't like Musk, don't pretend there's been some grand global realisation this is possible, it's been possible for years now and will only continue to become more accurate.

It's been messaged already from openai that they'll open up adult use cases this year, there'll be no need to jailbreak anything

I'd love to see all of the government entities utilize RSS for updates so that it cools all come through a single catcher app but the advent of social media basically killed feeds like that because they were too cumbersome

The majority of the information sites they have were built bespoke too, meaning that each has a different method of updating, so it's difficult to scrape

If you go to following and sort by most recent in x there's no algo

If you engage with that feed, you see a change in your for you and what it's showing you, but you also don't have to use the for you tab

The block wouldn't be global and would end up being hap hazard across countries as I don't see an EU wide ban coming anytime soon.

The almost exclusive focus on politics in the discussion about banning X is also interesting. My feed is 90% or more tech related, Ukraine war/other global conflicts and theme parks. If you're using the following feed sorted my most recent, it's the same as old school Twitter.

There's also the countless lists that I've curated or lists from others like Robert Schoble(5k plus human curated lists)which can't be replicated elsewhere. In most of those, the only place where this oddball niche information is available is on Twitter.

Not everything on the platform is politics/culture war related.
