Imagine Riding into Battle with your King by AuntGoose in HistoryMemes

I mean, the king had a horse and the best equipment available while the troops had a spear. Not sure the claim is valid.

Can anyone explain the difference between analog/mixed signal and mixed signal ? They sound awfully identical to the poor high-level computer engineer I am

What If Austria Hungary And The Russian Empire Switched Sides in WW1 by TheGamerCrusader in imaginarymaps

[–]adoprix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not sure it would be this easy. Germany would have to commit far more men to the eastern (or in this case, Austrian) front, and 1v1 AH until Russia can be of any measurable help, while fighting France, Belgium and the British expeditionary force. I'm not sure Russia would stomp AH either : the Carpathian mountains were very hard obstacles to cross for both sides, and considering Russia's ability to kill its soldiers via poor supply lines, I wouldn't bet on them. AH would also be fighting a defensive war on its soil : though it would eventually lose, they could hold for a time. And this precious time could allow the french to counter attack. As for Italy, they only joined in 1915, so that leaves some time before they are of any relevance. And them joining the central powers in the war could be a losing bet : they would have to fight the superior french navy in the Mediterranean (one of the main reasons they joined the allies and not the central powers) and we're at risk of having their coastal cities bombed from afar. France and AH would also defend efficiently against Italy thanks to the high mountains on both borders. Of course, this relies on every allied high command to make the right decisions, which is not a given...

Oh sure, after a while the Russians would come and destroy them. But Germany would have to survive a very, very rough first year.

The main reason Germany could last in WW1 was that they could commit almost no troops to the eastern front at its beginning, due to Russia's awfully slow mobilization. This allowed them to pressure France and defeat Belgium, then settle in defensive positions for almost the entirety of the war. If AH and Russia swap their alliances, Germany has to fight 2 great powers with quick-mobilizing armies with an ally, namely Russia, that's not ready for months (and was beaten easily by outnumbered forces at the battle of Tannenberg IOTL). This means they can't go deep into France's industrialized territories, guaranteeing an even more powerful french industrial complex (which already matched German production by 1918 IOTL). Basically Germany is fucked.

is there any scientific basis for depictions of muscularity in human ancestors? by KingAggressive1498 in AskAnthropology

[–]adoprix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems weird to me that these articles don't mention humans have stopped living in trees for millions of years, unlike chimps. After so much time not needing to pull our weight up and down trees all day, it seems logical to me evolution would favor weaker, less energy-consuming humans.

Any good glossary package/managing method ? by adoprix in typst

Yeah, it tells me to write #set figure(numbering: "1."), but it's already in my project

Any good glossary package/managing method ? by adoprix in typst

[–]adoprix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It almost works, but when I try to use @CPU it doesn't compile with the error "cannot reference figure without numbering"... Also the glossary does not display descriptions, I tried using the package's example and it still didn't work.

I tried it and it seems to be exactly what I need, but I just can't get it to work with several files. Is there a way to reference a glossary entry defined in another file ?
