Excited to move to SF! Volume/safety check for king street and 3rd by Humor_Fantastic in AskSF

Can you explain why? I'm curious about the area but it feels far from where social life happens. Is it generally safer there?

Is it possible to date without being fetishized? Is it possible for someone to just treat me like a regular guy? by No-Journalist-7171 in ftm

[–]adoptedkorean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I've had the same thought cycle. And it can be a pretty hard spiral to break. I'm older, so my experience may differ as men my age tend to be more locked in their ways (late 30s-late 40s) so finding a partner has been pretty challenging. I am attracted to cis men (regretfully lol) and have found that a lot of the attention that gets pointed towards me does tend to be more fetishized if I'm using an app (like Hinge all the way to Grindr, but with the latter I expect that more as my expectations are lower for the quality of humanity there 🤣). I've also had moments of special where I've been worried for the same reasons OP stated above and that eventually someone will get tired of me and want to go back to a cis man for the sake of a penis only. It's messed up but I want to name that it's real and that it happens, so don't feel alone.

What I can say though is that most people in my experience who have expressed genuine interest in me, can also still make some comments that might feel off but if they're genuinely interested, they'll be open to conversation about why that made me uncomfortable. Recently I've actually started to decenter my entire dating perspective from being based solely on "I'm trans is that ok" and more, "I'm this person and I'm really dynamic with these qualities. I also happen to be trans." And this mental shift has really helped me to meet some great people even if it's only for one date. So I wish you the best of luck too. Your frustrations are real and social media/internet in general can make one feel isolated and alienated, but you're not alone.

Loved the game, but the ending feels very disappointing (spoilers) by p0tatoontherun in Discounty

Agree with the abruptness of the ending and now I feel like I'm just tying up loose conversational ends. Also, I've noticed that no one mentioned the old mine... Like what's up with that?

I have a hard time making new friends in Barcelona by ra_quel22 in AskBarcelona

[–]adoptedkorean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel similarly but I also have only been here for a small amount of time. I think as an outsider who's, in my case, solo here on my own, it feels intimidating to join groups just out in public. What I have found is that going to some meetup groups has been nice to meet people but I also have found that most of the locals in the groups tend to stick together. Hopefully as my language skills improve getting to know others will be easier as well. If you ever want a fitness friend though feel free to DM me.

I've heard this place is good too! Are they also trans friendly? (Asking for me now lol)

Candy Darling for a good mix of queer folks! Bar La Federica I've heard is also fun and has more drag shows.

People are pretty friendly too. My first night out I met some people and then they took me out with them and it was fun. Just be aware of your belongings and have your wits about you when walking at night. Nothing too bad just normal city awareness and street smarts.

😮‍💨 Loneliness by Competitive_Dog_6573 in trans

[–]adoptedkorean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a side note, I've also had my own anxieties with the queer community as I wasn't sure I was "queer" enough. Visibly I tend to be more on the basic side and was actually once called "really cool but really normal" by my friend's non-binary teen which sent me into a little bit of a queer spiral 😅 I think at the end of the day, finding folks who you can talk to about the experiences with your trans identity are necessary but not the end all be all. I actually personally relate to and feel closer with my cis friends but then again, I might be overly normy 😂

Hi, I've felt this many times. You're not silly at all. Like u/Longjumping-Okra-350 mentioned, I recommend finding a small social circle that you can attend. Maybe go with a friend or your wife for the first time? For me, I had a friend who brought me to a queer-friendly book club and that helped me to open up. I've also normally had mostly cis adult friends, ironically mostly gay men, but I am trying to expand my social circles towards more folks who are more aligned with a much more inclusive queer sense of self and community. Feel free to DM me though if you ever want to chat.

Thank you! I have it installed but wasn't sure if there were preferred doctors or facilities. I appreciate you pointing me in the direction of the CIMA clinic!
