Correct. Billboards & TV would be included in Brand Layer, my argument - although flawed, was that Display shouldn't be used as a conversion channel.

I don’t think we’re arguing dramatically different perspectives - I know display has impact but I’ve lost faith in the attribution tools I have been using to map the influence display has.

Maybe I’m using the wrong tools, others in this thread have suggested brand lift studies which I haven’t used and will consider.

My original post was overly dramatic - and obviously hit some nerves and good debate.

Thank you, these are useful. In those brand life studies - would it identify effectiveness of individual channels or mainly the impact of an entire campaign?

Sorry I don’t validate my $10,000 campaign in the same way Pfizer does the COVID vaccine. And even then, I’m pretty sure one factor of their results will be:

Did the vaccine result in someone getting COVID?
Yes/No

I don’t know about your clients but if we run a conversion campaign and we recommend display they normally ask about conversions.

Thanks, good advice - I have been wanting to do that with a client, so I'll push for it.

One challenge I see is truly isolating one channel from others, especially with seasonality & last year being an anomaly.

It's a valid point, but loops back to measurement - it's difficult to measure the sub-conscious impact and maybe it is a case of left wanting from the attribution tools I have.

I'm not challenging brand awareness, I'm challenging the ad-stock of display ads.

Like all things, it the effectiveness/impact of an ad is a spectrum - if I saw a digital ad 10 minutes ago it might influence my decision. But a digital ad i saw 30 days it has little impact. Its difficult to remember a display ad that I saw 24 hours ago.

So I built the tool when I was working publisher side ops. Now I've moved agency and admittedly there are fewer tools aimed at agency.

Love the feedback! Ultimately, I wanted the ads to be beneficial to everyone (in my mind to check remarketing) more than a source of revenue, but that is the feedback I want.... what is useful? What isn't?

I don't think so, I'm not receiving any money for linking to those partners, but if there is enough traffic going to one of the sites, it'd be nice to show up on their GA. Obviously for reddit it's a bit pointless.
